Ok, so I was driving home from getting some coffee this morning and I noticed the "Security" light was coming on while I was driving. After about 3-4 minutes of more driving, my alarm started going off! While I was driving!
I got home and took the coffee out of the middle cup holder and it was practically empty. Oops The Factory Security System Module was soaked. The alarm still works but it sometimes goes off while I'm driving now! This has to be one of the dumbest engineering flaws I've seen in a while. They put the security system module right underneath where it is going to get wet at some point (Come on admit it, we've all spilled something in our cars at one point or another). My question is, is this something the warranty will cover? Thanks in advance to anyone who knows for sure. Josh

probably not if you tell them you spilled coffee on it.. take it apart and dry it out.. or buy one at www.subaruwrxparts.com
they are not too expensive considering other mods and easy to install.. especially if you are replacing an existing one. |

The security light is underneath the Speedometer. It isn't a "light" as in a flashing light that tells people you have an alarm, I meant the little warning light that pops up on the instrument cluster.
I would think based on the placement of the security module, I should get it replaced for free. The thing is just begging to be spilled on right there. |

Am I the only one confused on this?
Where exactly is the security module you speak of? If I remember correctly (I am not near my WRX now), but isn't the center cup holder solid. Or are you speaking of the mis-placed cup holder that is above the stero/env controls? If the security light is flashing when you are driving, the valet mode may be set. But if the liquid did soak the module, you should be able to carefully clean the module with some light use of alcohol (on the board) and dry it out. Or you could just tell your dealer that it started going off like that for some unknown reason. ![]() |

The Security Module is underneath the cupholder in the center console by the hand brake. And if you take your center console apart you will notice that the cupholder is not a part of the center console, it is screwed onto it, so there is a small gap that liquid could leak through.

Just an FYI for anyone else that may have had this problem (and I think there are more than just a few of us) it IS covered by the warranty. Just got off the phone and the dealer recognizes that the placement of the security module is not exactly the best, so they will cover it on warranty.
Hope this helps anyone else that has this trouble. ![]() |
