Default Lexus IS350 Coupe possibly coming

http://www.dieselstation.com/news/au...ly-coming.html

In a press release announcing the special edition IS250X for Australia, hinted at a possible coupe version of their IS sedan.

"We are very excited about some of the upcoming developments for the IS Line, including the V8-powered IS-F and potentially, an IS coupe in the future," says John Roca, Lexus Australia divisional manager.

Funny thing is, I photoshopped this same idea back in November of 2005 just out of my own curiousity of what an IS Coupe would look like. Click the image above to see a larger image.

Press Release:

LEXUS TO INTRODUCE LIMITED EDITION IS 250X

Lexus Australia has marked the milestone sale of more than 5000 IS 250's with the release of a limited edition model - the IS 250X.

Only 260 examples of the IS 250X will be sold, and the model will be instantly recognisable via its unique five-spoke, 18" and "X" badging.

Due in showrooms in late July, the IS 250X will be available in a one-off Vermilion (red) exterior colour. It will also be available in Metallic Silver and Onyx (black), with all colours matched to the black

The interior will also feature a 14-speaker Mark Levinson Stereo system, moonroof, satellite navigation, smooth and luxurious leather seats, sports pedals and metallic scuff plates.

The IS 250X comes with sports, delivering a lower, firmer ride.

The limited edition model will be available in automatic or manual transmission, with an RRP of $64,390 for the manual model*.

Lexus Australia divisional manager John Roca said that the IS Line of vehicles continues to challenge competitor products, delivering value for money and driving enjoyment.

"Since its introduction in Australia, the IS Line of vehicles has stood out from the competition - delivering excellent dynamics, styling and value for money," he said.

"Many of our customers appreciate the value for money the IS 250 represents. The IS 250X takes this value proposition further to include many luxury and performance options, previously reserved for more expensive vehicles.

"We are very excited about some of the upcoming developments for the IS Line, including the V8-powered IS-F and potentially, an IS coupe in the future," Mr Roca said.

Who cares about coupes, make the sedan a six speed stick and all wheel drive!

Because the guy just photoshopped the sedan into a 2 door, it isn't an official picture. I would hope that the Lexus designers would know the market well enough to understand that they have to truly make it into a coupe.

But I do agree with the request for the 6 speed with the big engine. I think that would get them some of the same market that would never think of buying an IS350, but will happily cross-shop the BMW 3 and Infiniti G.

I would like an IS350, if for no other reason than to give Infiniti a run for its money. It would need to look nice, though (not the sedan photoshopped above).

Having used the rear seats of my car exactly 2 times in 5 years, I would definitely prefer a coupe to a sedan. Of course if I was in the market for this type of car, the new CTS would be tops on my list - and that one is supposedly coming out in coupe form also.

They should probably replace the IS250 with an IS300 before any of this. The lower model is always the volume seller, and the IS250 is underpowered compared to the 328i or the upcoming C280, while costing similar if not more with common options.

I went shopping for an IS a little while back. I was very disappointed that the 350 did not come in a manual and only had the "paddle shifters" that did not work well enough to keep me entertained. So I decided that I would check out the 250. Well that was a disappointment too. The car was massively underpowered for what it was. So that is why I am reading this and wondering why they would slap an AWD system on an already underpowered car. I would hate to drive that car with all the parasitic loss of power that the AWD is going to cause.

Lexus needs to bump up the displacement or add a turbo to the IS250 before bothering to go to a coupe.
