Default MY 98 legacy outback ej205 swap thread.
Starting this thread for posterity. photos will follow feel free to banter, bash, praise, and ridicule me

big ups to luvmyrs for helping with all the work and letting me do the project in his garage, and mad props to Zephyr for doing the wiring (better you than me buddy!)

THE PLAN
  • 98 outback wagon
  • 02 wrx ej205
  • 02 wrx trans/diff.
  • vf38 twinscroll turbo + usdm 'blue' injectors + walbro 255
  • ebay tmic
  • tgv deletes
  • 4/2 pot setup

Web Log
  • 7/14/07: Picked up an ENTIRE 02 wrx minus the shell. VT sports car tore it down and i got the running gear, interior etc.
  • 7/18/07: bought a 98 outback limited with 160k on the blown ej255, had it towed to a friends house with a great garage.
  • 7/30/07: pulled: hood, battery, washer bottle, cruise control, other misc bits in engine bay.
  • 7/31/07: Pulled dashboard *man what a pain in the arse.
  • 8/2/07: Old motor out!
  • 8/7/07: Old Trans + propshafts out! Wiring started (thanks Zephyr)
  • 8/9/07: Crossmember dropped out wiht rack and control arms attached

^ goign to keep it pretty stock on the outside. rims obviously and it will probably sit pretty low, but other than that stock

hmmmm sounds a lot like my swap except i went w/ vf34.....mine has run me probably close to $8k so far

1907 its nothing like your swap.. mines a wagon!? haha i kid
I'm just under 7k with everything but its adding up quick im sure ill be over 8k by time im done but that includes the price of the 98 outback (1k with a blown headgasket) and selling a bunch of the leftover wrx parts.
