Default 06 Wrx Aem Ems

Before all the flaming begins let me just start by saying that I got a EMS unit for CHEAP and by cheap I mean almost free.

I want to piggyback the AEM off of my stock computer, but I need to know how to wire it and exactly what I'll be able to control with it. I'm no stranger to automotive wiring by any means... so that's not what I'm asking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AEM EMS units are not piggybacks.

Running the AEM EMS as a piggyback has supposedly been done before, but the people that supposedly did it aren't talking. You'd be better off running a cable throttle, then buying a couple of "extention harnesses" to hack up.

Interesting note: The SRT-4 AEM EMS is a piggyback setup.

Your best bet is to sell it and:
1. Get a UTEC
2. Wait for AEM to release a Drive-by-Wire version for the Subarus (rumor is this could be coming soon).
3. Get a hydra

Buy an STI jumper harness and a WRX jumper harness. T all of the inputs and cut the outputs so you control all of them. Then the stock computer thinks it still is running things and you have a full standalone to play with.

It would be nice, but it's not quite that easy...

I know that it won't be that easy but that's basically it. Hell if worse comes to worse I'll sell it and get a Cobb or a UTEC.

Works on an 05 STI so I bet it would work on a 06 WRX.

If you cut *all* of the ECU's outputs, then what is controlling the throttle body?

Not all. just all of the injectors and ignition outputs. The factory ecu will retain idle control and throttle by wire. Which can be changed through openecu if you want.

The few that I had heard about (using a Toyomoto setup) were still having issues.

I would just rather run a cable throttle, hack a couple of extension harnesses together, and let the AEM run the whole show.

Totally me too. But some people want to keep OBDII and DBW. I piggybacked a AEM on a 05 STI and had no problems after it was tuned well. Althought the car was not heavly modded. But it was a emissions passing machine.

still trying to figure out what to do with mine, need to either get a wire to connect existing xd-1/16 to Aem, OR add an o2 sensor to my downpipe...
