So, after seeing Sharbait's thread, I mentioned that I was looking at getting the Bose 3-2-1 system. Well, a few people chimed in, and suggested I look at a few others, particularly the Denon 3.1 system. I checked up on it, and the reviews everywhere were WAY better than the Bose. It has more features, ipod hook-up, etc... and all the editors prefered the sound quality as well.
Well, I looked up the system, and it's $1599 retail. Some places selling for $1200. ![]() I searched E-bay and found this system, with an auction at $0 with no reserve. The auction says, "Item has been tested, and works perfectly" The only downside? Missing the speaker cables, remote, and video cables (component). Now, the video cable wasn't a big deal, because you can get that anywhere, but the speaker cable is a propriatary cable, with a special connection meant for the speaker. Regular speaker cable won't do. There was another auction going simultaneously for a set of the exact speaker cables I needed, from a different seller. Price was going for around $50 shipped. Well, I called Denon directly, and the PAIR of the cables I need, are $7.50 from them. ![]() I just won the auction, which apparently people don't want to bid on because of the fact it WONT be working upon arrival without the special wires. Everything else was there except the remote, but I use a harmony, anyway. Cost? $132.50 + $70 shipping Cables? $7.50 So for $207, I just snagged a $1600 sound system, that is guaranteed to work upon arrival, or my money back... ![]() UPDATE POST 14 ![]()

That system rules. My parents got the exact same setup for their new TV room... jerks get all the good stuff after I leave, I see how it is.
It does pretty damn well for the size of the speakers. That is an AWESOME deal. |

Some are missing more parts than others. You just need to find the ones that have the speakers, sub, reciever, sub power cord, and connection cable... the rest, like remote, stands, speaker cable, video cable, etc, is easy and cheap to replace! |

Amazing deal! I love when I hear of deals like that, but hate it when it is not coming to my doorstep.
Reselling the cables sounds like an awesome idea. I wonder how long you can sell them for. |

I didn't want to have cables running all over the place, and really didn't want the added clutter to the room of 5 speakers. 2 will do just fine. I'm not an anal audiophile, but apparently this system sounds amazing, and does an incredible job reproducing the surround sound "effect" with 2 speakers. |

Update:
Got the system last week. Like stated, was missing the speaker cables. My cables came in the next day, and I installed everything. The speakers have a few small dents, and one is scratched, but the head unit and sub are in 100% perfect shape. Works perfect! I bought the Harmony remote, and everything is set-up. The sound quality is just amazing for a 2.1 system. The live concerts and movies just blow me away. Best $200 ever spent. ![]() |

WRXGuy, I'm glad it worked out for you. Here's MY ebay "triumph"...
I love my Klipsch ProMedia computer speakers. Then one day we have a flood in my house, and the subwoofer takes on water and splits open like an over-ripe banana. I go on ebay, order a new sub. There seem to be lots of them available. Get sub for $30. Sub arrives. Wrong version; it's for the 2.1 speaker setup, not the 4.1, which I have. I can't find the 4.1 sub online. But the speakers are all the same, so now all I need is the 2.1 control unit, and I can just use it as 2.1. I order one off ebay, which says, "As is. Plug pins are damaged." But it's the only one I can find. Klipsch doesn't sell replacement control units at that time. I figure I'll try to patch it together using Radio Shack stuff. Second control unit arrives, plug completely mangled. Repair plug. Plug in -- control unit doesn't work! Read up on the internet, this is a common problem. The control units die somehow. Craaaaap. I realize that these speakers (ProMedia 2.1) are still sold new at Best Buy. Fed up, I march down and get a box. Plug it in, it all works. I survey my three subwoofers (one split open, one wrong type, one working), six satellite speakers (all working), three control units (one dead), and mess of boxes. I've spent hours of time, and way too much money. Somewhere there's some kind of lesson in all this. --Dan Mach V FastWRX.com |
