Default Highest Mileage?

Are there any you that have 150,xxx miles or higher on the original engine? If so then what repairs (if any) besides routine maintenance have you done? What oil have you used. I'm just curious what lifespan could one expect if proper maintenance was performed.

well, i'm at 145k on my '02's original motor & the repairs have been numerous, but nothing too serious. I got the car about a year ago, i'm the (according to Carfax) 6th owner of the car, and from owner to owner, it has made it's way from New York, all the way accross the country to me in Oregon. Also, the used car dealer I got it from had NONE of the service records, and after owning it for a year, I don't think it's really ever had any routine maintence done......ever. Outside of an oil change here & there. I think w/ my particular car, body rust will eventually prove to be the biggest issue, but nothing terrible as of yet. Since i've owned the car, i've needed to replace: the factory struts, the original spark plugs!, the up pipe (OEM's flange was completely cracked all the way around & leaking like hell. Replaced w/ an HKS ), Diff fluid replaced w/ Redline, Tranny fluid replaced w/ Scotty's Cocktail, and currently running Castrol Syntec 10w-30 w/ Bosch filters & a K&N air filter. I'm actually planning on starting the big timing belt project tomorrow, as i'm 90% positive it's the original belt 40k miles overdue for a change! i'll also be doing the water pump, radiator hoses, thermostat, idlers & T-belt tensioner. Oh, I also recently replaced all the brake pads/rotors w/ EBC pads & Brembo blanks & have had the P/S flushed @ the dealer since i've had the car. I use this car to commute every couple months from Oregon back home to Idaho, about a 9 hour commute, and it's done great every time. Engine still pulls like a champ & I have every intention of going Stg. 2 w/ it, as well as continuing w/ a few suspension upgrades. I'll be keeping this car for a long, long time

That is good to hear because I have 49.5K only within a year and half of ownership. At the current rate I will have close to 200K when I get this thing paid off. I mainly drive on the highway (98%) of the time. I'm half temped to drive my 95 Dakota back and forth to work because it is about 95 miles round trip to keep the miles off the WRX. I know if I drive the Dakota which has over 185k in the clock (with the original engine), I will be replacing that engine sooner than I would like. Plus it gets crappy mpg. Or should I just drive the REX and replace the engine when it goes...Hoping to get it paid off before the engine needs replaced....Then build a monster.

I have a 95 Subaru Impreza L AWD with the 1.8L. It has 248,530 miles on it. We've owned the car since it was new and we have always used Quaker State SAE 10w-30 changing it every 3,000 miles with a new oil filter. Repairs i can think off the top of my head include new valve covers, new knock sensors, new crank and cam shaft seals in the front, new O ring on the back of the head where the camshaft cover is. Foruntly there hasn't been any major repairs. The majority of the milleage is all highway. All proper matience has been done which contributed to how well the engine has performed. My dad owns a 99 Impreza Outback Sport with the 2.2L. He baught it used with 20,000 miles. It currently has 270,358 miles. Same story as my car, Quacker State SAE 10w-30 changing it every 3,000 miles with a new oil filter. So far the only engine work that i know of was new valve covers. The car has needed a new transmission and cluth, however the engine is still going strong.

I have 149k miles on my car (probably 75%+ freeway). Other than regular maintenance, the only mechanical repairs I've done are: replace knock sensor and replace right front wheel bearing. I've used mobil 1 10w30 since very early (maybe 15k?). I think my head gasket is leaking though (external oil leak...). Also, I probably should have replaced the spark plug pipe seals a lot earlier...all four were leaking oil onto the spark plug cables (I just replaced them last weekend)

My last Subaru was a '95 Legacy w/ a 2.2l. It had 325,000 miles when it met its untimely death in an accident. It was in the family since it was new, and was passed down to me when it had approx. 150k mi on it. After the break in period nothing but M1 5W-30 & 10W-30 was run in it. It never had any major problems, just maintance items, a knock sensor, and a coolant temp sensor. I had the valve cover off around 300k mi. and it still looked like the engine just rolled off the assembly line. I wanted the car to last me to atleast 500k mi, but a big chevy van had other ideas. My new subie is a '00 2.5RS w/ 155k mi. I'm the third owner of this one, but I have the service records all the way back to its first oil change. Same deal with this one, M1 only, no major problems just services, still has original head gaskets. So, if you take care of your Subie it will take care of you.

Its good to hear that you all have got some great mileage out of your cars. My wife's 2004 RS has about 97k on it so I'm fairly sure she will want a new ride before the car is ready to stop going. When that time comes I may just take over her car. I also see that for the most part that you all are mainly driving on the highway as I am so that is a great indicator...

Ha.. My buddy has an '02 WRX with just over 200,000 miles.. The funny part is that he's never done any maintinence on the car.. I put plugs and a fuel filter on it at over 100k and also installed a clutch.. Other than that, it's been fully neglected.. No timing belt..etc.. Pretty rediculous.

175k miles on '99 on a 2.2 Legacy. Got the car at a little less than 150k. I believe it was all routine maintenance, nothing major done to the car. Inherited car from uncle who brought it to the dealership till about 100k.

My '95 2.2L L has around 135,000. The engine has never needed repairs up to this point. I have had boots replaced and some work done on the brakes, but nothing ever costing more than a few hundred dollars. Even if it goes tomorrow I'm VERY pleased with its performance up to this point. I keep the oil changed religiously every 3,000 miles with a new filter.

The '05 STi I just purchased has just under 20,000 miles on it and I don't expect it to make it to 135,000 like the L without some serious work needed eventually. Ah well, gotta pay to play.

Subes are great for high mileage. Good oil and the normal stuff maintained. there are more freak occurrences with the ej engines, but thier are alot of miles to be gathered. I had at one point 3 subarus in the driveway, 2 being parted, miles near 800k between them. My latest is an old school, given my work under the hood, I sincerely wondered if it hit 1 million. Came from alaska in 97 to maine, hood had battle holes , I put in the third set of axles, exhaust, etc. some things didn't ad up but shrugged it off as correct in the 110k miles range (from alaska through the woods the whole way or what?). that does put the four subes that kept each other going near a million. I have carried the engine myself with clutch still attached up a flight of stairs and know it is an amazing engine (the boxer fours) every aspect exceeds inline equivelant. EVERY.

193K on my 96 OBS. Fixed a few oil leaks when I got it, and I change the oil and filter every 3K. It's got a bit of body rust that I am tending to, but it is mechanically fine and happy. Runs way better than all the newer cars that belong to my co-workers (none of my coworkers own a Subie).

211,000K on my 1999 RS. I was the unlucky one with the head gasket problem. When they extended the warranty to 100K, I was already at 150K, go figure. Got that replaced at 170,000K. Other than that nothing else (knock on wood).
