Default Tranny issue...

After about a year and half of owning my car (06 WrX). Ive come to realize something is wrong with my clutch/tranny. My clutch pedle is REALLY stiff. Its been like this since the day i got the car, but i didnt think much of it back then. I just thought maybe this is how Subi clutchs are.

A few weeks ago i drove a friends 07 WrX and noiced his clutch was like pushing a feather compared to mine. Ive driven STi's and there clutchs are no where near as stiff as mine. So 2 weeks ago i took it in...

I went to the back first to a mechanic and asked to him to come check it out. His first reasction was holly S***. He said this isnt normal by any means. So we went to the service guy and he said he'll take it from here. I told him the problem, and he explained it like this. Car still has warrenty BTW. Its $100 to check out the car. If we need to take the tranny apart its $700. If WE determine that the tranny wasnt abused then warrenty will cover it. If not youd have to pay.

He was being a dick to me though and did not say it that nicely in any way or shape. He kept giving me attiude and ***** like that. The way i see it is since hes already being a dick to me, hes just going to say its from abuse and charge me the $800.

I just want to know if anyones had a problem similar to this. Stiff as hell clutch pedel. Also sometimes my 4th grinds. And sometimes the car doesnt go into reverse. It takes a few trys. What would cause this? The car was like that when i bought it. I just thought it was normal until recently. The clutch fluid is fine. I only have about 2000 miles left until my warrenty runs out. Should i put the car back to stock and take it in? Or leave my mods: TBE and STi tmic.

It sounds like he's being a little rude but you have to understand the dealership eats the cost of whatever it takes to figure out what's going on with your car, and Subaru doesn't reimburse them unless it's an approved warranty repair.

Reverse gears are usually not synchromesh, as there is only one reverse gear in the normal automotive transmission and changing gears in reverse is not required. If you have a tough time getting it into gear, try double clutching or putting it into first gear / another gear first, without engaging the clutch.

Not sure what's up with your fourth gear.

Also I almost suffocated reading your post, proper paragraphs help reading comprehension and perceived author composure...

Edited, Better? I think ill just put it back to stock and take it in. One more thing, my clutch squeeks sometimes when i push the pedle in.

this is how my dealership is too, sept they charge 500 to open the tranny, and i'm pretty sure it's always abuse, especially if you have a tbe. don't expect them to cover a thing.

I mean i can get a new clutch and my tranny rebuilt for $700 or so... so why pay them for stock parts when i can get better parts for that same price. If warrenty covers it then thats different though.

Did you abuse the car? If they open it up, is the flywheel going to be all discolored due to heat, etc. ? If you think you are probably going to get the warranty denied, then by all means go elsewhere - otherwise, bring it in - they are just telling you the way it is so that if they open it up, and it's obvious abuse, it isn't a big shocker for you when they stick you with the bill. As far as paying for stock parts - ask if they will install the aftermarket parts for you - odds are they won't care and will install pretty much whatever. (you'll need to supply the parts)

If there are no mods or have never been any mods then there is nothing to worry about. The only thing SOA won't cover under warranty is stripped gears. That constitutes abuse. If the gears are ok and you just have clutch or syncro problems then SOA would cover 100% and you are off the hood for any charges. If there are gear problem then depending on you service history with the dealer then SOA would usually offer a 50%-50% split as a one time good will. By the way, if you put it back to stock I can guarantee that a good Subaru tech would be able to tell that you or someone has tampered with it. Just wanted to let you know.
Yeah its not hard to tell if a cars been modded or not sometimes.

The service guy was saying if the syncro's are messed up warrenty wont cover it. The way he laid it out pretty much made me think this guy is going to try anything he can so i dont get a warrenty fix.

This is subaru in turlock, CA BTW. Im thinking about calling around other dealers and going with the one that has the best customer feedback...

Try another dealer and don't mention that you went to the first. If possible go to a dealer outside of the 1st dealers reginal area. The factory service reps are limited to a certain geographical area and they might know of your situation already.
Yeah ill try somewere out of town. How far are you from cali hahah...

I had the same problem. When I took out my 5-speed to swap in the 6-speed I was playing with the release bearing and it was super stiff. Like it was stuck on something on the shaft. I lived with it for 91K driving in Atlanta traffic!!

What do you do at the subaru dealership? You cant be in service dept, if you were then you'd know that if SOA paid for 50% and the customer paid for 50% that would be considered a GOODWILL gesture and in no way would be considered a warranty repair.
