CEL problem
Hello guys, I just install a hydra 2.5 on my car with a 35r setup. The car is behaving amazing with the base map that pril provided.
However, a CEL came on blinking rapidly after reving high rpms, anyone have experienced this? Also today i was driving around, and hit like 7 psi of boost (since i am breaking in the engine) and a steedy CEL came on, I thought that the car knocked, but after turning the car off and on again to get rid of the CEL, it did it to me again after hitting some boost couple of runs later (the car never boosted more then 7 psi). I dont thing the car is knoking since the AFR was in 11 range all the time with the boost, also the egt values where in the 600c range. I was noticing this CEL came on when i reved the car past the 6800 to 7000 rpms and the stock shift light came on, do you think this could be it? Also has the hydra some way to check CEL codes? Thank you in advance..

It's covered in the "User Manual" but a solid CEL means you are in the "backup spark map" due to exceeding the voltage in the "knock threshold" map and the knock count and buffer voltage set under select/settings/ignition.
This could be knock or it could be that you need to fine tune the knock threshold for your engine especially if you have any head work. Thanks, Phil www.elementtuning.com |

Check for stuff banging on the block as well, but likely its just that the knock threshold is too low.
Lately I've been setting the knock threshold of cars being tuned on race gas by just setting "pump gas" levels of boost, conservative timing (like Phil's map). Just run it on the race gas and monitor the "knock threshold" window. Just lay the threshold right over that. So, if you can get a little high octane fuel, you can dial in your threshold that way without having to worry about wearing a headset and all the way Phil or I do. |
