Default Any rumors of the STi appearing at the auto shows?

Haven't heard anything, and if it's going to appear this summer or fall as some think, shouldn't it be making the rounds and be getting announced soon?

JJ?

I'm headin off to the philly show. I doubt I'll see an sti. BUT two years ago I didn't think I would see a wrx on a raised platform and I did. I have rolls of film with me and will post pictures if anything cool is there.

Back from the philly show. no sti. SOA still says 03 as a 04 model. they did have scheible's group N car and it has some new parts since the last time I have seen the car. The wing that the wrx wrc uses is on the car along with sti projectors. Car was beautiful. No news on any changes to the car. Saturn had a turbo'd customer car that they were showing off.

I did get a huge massive poster from subaru of lovell sliding the his car through a corner. so for that the show was worth it. poster is bad ass.

Default Long- sorry

Here is my opinion on Subaru's STi announcement schedule:

It highly depends on the price point that they are going to hit. For example, if they are going to try and bring the STi in for less than 30K, let's say 28K base for example, then they might not want to announce very early at all. They might want to announce just a few months before the STi is actaully in the hands of new owners. Notice with the WRX, they announced in January, announced MSRP in Febuary, and the vehicles showed up in mid-March. Why did they do this? My take is that with the unexpectably low MSRP of around 24K (remember people were talking 30K+!), that a typical car buyer looking at say a 2001 RS for 21K might not buy it if the WRX was going to be 24,000. This would cause 2001 RS's to sit on the dealers lot, with dealers having to beg people to take them off of their hands.

Same goes with the STi- do you think that your typical WRX buyer would be willing to pay 4K to 5K more than the WRX for a STi if:

1) He knew the STi price?
2) Knew the STi was coming, soon enough for him/her to wait?

I think that in this case you might see WRX's sitting in dealers lots, with dealers begging people to take them.

Bottom Line: I don't believe SOA wants to cut into WRX sales with a premature STi announcement.

However, if the STi will be 35K (I highly doubt it), then SOA could *possibly* announce earlier without adverse effects to WRX sales. This is assuming your normal WRX buyer is not willing to pay a 10K+ premium for an STi.

My final thought: The price will be 30K give or (more probably) take a couple of thousand. SOA will not want to jeopardize WRX sales, so theoretically if they want to launch Spring 03, I would look for an announcement no earlier then Detroit 03, or New York, or Chicago.

All in my very humble opinion, I said opinion- not fact.
