Default Looking for a better altenator

I'm looking for an altenator that is powerful than the factory one. Anybody have any suggestions where I can get one?

I've been told, although I've never tried this before, that if you go to a good automotive electrical shop (you know, the kinda place that rebuilds alternators and starters) that they can build you just about whatever you want using the stock housing. That might be worth looking into if nobody else has any suggestions.

Not having any trouble HIHO. I'm thinking about putting a new stereo system in my car and want to have a better altenator running in it. I, also, have an underdrive pulley in it so I don't want my battery to die on me fast.

One thing that will really help your system is to go through and clean all you ground contacts. The more gound the better. Me and alot of other owners have added extra ground wire to get rid of alot of noise. There are also some performance problems solved when this is done.

I am looking for one of these too... hoping to eliminate any dimming issues when feeding my multi-amp system at high volumes... along with adding some better lighting.

This guy, "mechanical man" says his high-output alternators will work for our Subaru's with an extra mounting bracket / kit. But I haven't tried one yet: http://www.mechman.com/alt.htm

I aslo spoke w/ a guy at Northwest Regulator... he doesn't have and alt. specific for our cars... but said if we sent him an alternator, and had a few interested people, they might be able to make something??? 503.235.1038

Upgraded ground wires have helped my system a bit... haven't done the charge wire... would be very interested in hearing someone elses experience with a higher output alt.

piece,

bb

i'm also looking for a better alternator. i've sent out forms to 5 other places, but i'm still waiting to hear from them. that mechman alternator sounds like the only one out there. let me know if you can get a deal on them. i think there are a couple other people who are interested in buying too.

Yes, I'd like a bigger alternator as well.

They've got a 120-150amp "mean-green" alternator they say will fit.

$369

The other thing yu can do is wire in a capacitor it will smooth out the pluses in the amp draw when the subs hit. Saves the who car alot of stress!
