jeez, all you guys paying to have your windshields replaced, i never had to replace mine, but if i did, in mass there is no deductible charge on insurance or increase in premium, so glass is always replaced for free

I had to replace mine at 4000 miles. Heat stress cracked it, dealer wouldnt cover - said they found an impact with the ball point pen (bull**** but whatever).

$350, new windshield, non OEM, fits/works great. No wind noise.

does anyone have part #'s for their ppg glass for a 2002 wrx sedan? i've searched and it says F202245 GTN is the correct part #, but for some reason, a local place tried fitting it to my car and said the glass was too short. can someone post a part # of their PPG glass for a 2002 wrx sedan? thanks!

Insurance should definatly cover it under your policy.... I would check with your agent before you spend any money.

Care to list where you had it done and the final price.

It now started cracking vertical and is in my field of vision.
I've been leaning to the side like a gangsta so I don't have to see the crack.

mine cracked on the first hot day of summer, my dealership warrantied it when they could find no impact or chip. It started from the top of the windshield, just left of the center mirror.

I just got my WRX and it has a nasty crack all the way thru the windshield as well... I plan on calling my insurance shortly but I noticed that the logo on the right side says PPG

I see "FW2245" listed on my 02 WRX - let me know if I am not looking at the right area for you.

hmm my windshield just developed a crack as well. there IS a chip within the crack, but the ship looks nothing like what a normal rock chip would look like.

there is no discernible impact point or cone, the chip itself runs along the line of the crack. the crack starts on the far left side of the windshield and stretches nearly half way across the glass. i'll try and get pics up tomorrow. the chip is about 1cm wide by .5mm tall and it's orientation is horizontal to the windshield. i do have 2 other chips in the windshield but they are over on the passenger's side and are nowhere near the crack. but of course, the chip is on the outside...anybody think this is due to failure or an actual impact? only sound i recall hearing was the cracking of the windshield, and not any sort of impact like a rock striking the windshield.

nhat, you should first try to get it covered from the dealer. If they refuse and find the crack then you should call your insurance company. Typically the prices range in the 300+ category for a new windshield. BTW is it cracked on the inside as well as the outside? Just about all newer windshields are shatter resistant meaning there are 3 pieces to the windshield. The first which is the outside, the middle which is a plastic like layer that protects the third layer from cracking, hence the lack of a shattered windshield from your crack.

haha..... i just had 2 different dealers deny my windshield claim. one is from a 'real' impact chip, which i noticed after i put the claim in.. the second (the first actual crack) is in the middle of the window towards the top by the mirror, this is from a stress crack (cold to hot), but the dealer managed to find a "impact" from thier "magical ball point pen", pisses me off cuase you can not see a impact like you can on the other one... the crack has managed to loop around the mirror and back up, so it looks funny as hell. i guess i'll try another 'dealer' and see what they have to say about it. cause i don't have $500 for a replacement windshield.

I had no idea a pen could make a hole in glass.
