Default PDXTuning 2008WRX Baseline and Tuned Results

I started a new thread so I have room to post a bit more data. As mentioned in the other thread we have acquired a new 2008 WRB WRX. A quick look in the engine bay makes you think you are looking at a Legacy.

After strapping it to the dyno, we installed a wideband and looked for something to tune it with. Fortunately the fine folks at TurboXS overnighted a beta UTEC Delta to test out on the new 08. It worked perfectly and we were on our way to seeing what the car can do. This car is completly stock in everyway sans UTEC. Stock exhaust, stock cats, etc.

Tim Bailey took over the tuning and tweaked our starter map to 15psi and got a good smooth 267 lb-ft of torque and 218whp. (up from 239 lb-ft and 205whp stock).

Just to see what the upper end of torque could look like, we ramped the boost up to 17psi and added a can of Torco to about 5 gallons of pump 92. It netted a stump pulling 300 lb-ft of torque!

Here is a look at the three tunes:

Stock ECU

If we look at the stock ECU map, you can see the low boost and VERY rich AFRs the stock car runs.

Here is a look at the stock ECU timing. Multiple runs had the timing dips in the midrange, although knock was not audible.[/color]

As you can see, that small Mitsu turbo can spool up pretty quick.

Tim is going to add some comments about the tune, and I'll dig up some more datalogs to post. I was surpised at the peak hp with the stock car, so much that I was wondering if Subaru sent us a ringer. I would love to see results from some other 08s. Perrin has a couple of new 08s, so we may be able to get one of those over here to test out.

Cheers,

Jeff Sponaugle

Yes, a stage 2 setup looks to be very nice. The downpipe looks like it might be compatible with the legacy downpipes, but the muffer part is different. I know Jeff (Perrin) is working on a stage 2 setup so hopefully we can get that tested soon.

Cheers,

So, basically, the stock map still runs a long OL/CL delay, which means its lean during the entire time of peak boost. And apparently, the timing tables still suck.

What do the AFR's look like on the stock map? Can you post the stock boost map?

That is the stock A/F ratios with stock boost map.

Lean at full boost FTL. I guess every single car is going to be like this from now on 07+ (new rules?).

Hopefully down the line when people keep breaking ring lands they actually put some decent pistons on future models.

Bah, I meant tuned map, not stock map. Its early here Oh, and I meant the actual target boost map thats in the ECU. Not sure if you can pull that with a UTEC or not.

Looks good Jeff! Atleast it may provide some insite on what the sti is going to be able to produce. Hopefully the aftermarket can help with the looks too.

Excellent work.

However, I really wish you guys would have got yourselves an '07 car to run through the same paces at the same time so we could see the difference between the two.

why not just compare this to what dave Burschur dynoed? ( i know they are diff dyno's, but it will give you something to go by.)

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1184801

looks like 228tq/191tq to me so i would say the 08 is a little more powerful, but comparing on the same dyno would be nice.

there is no point to comparing 2 different dynos. to many variables.

So does the 2008 WRX have the same TD04 as previous '02-'07 WRXs?
