Question One day free in Anchorage, what to do?

I will be in Anchorage for a week soon and have one day, a Sunday, free to do stuff. I'll have a car.

What is the one (or few) things you would do if you had just one day in Anchorage or surrounding area?

Thanks.

Pictures, fish, hike, drink from the vast selection of local beers. Go downtown and get some tourist patronization swag. Eat a pizza at Mooses tooth/ watch a movie at bear tooth theater pub. Go to flat top.

Thats all I got off the top.

wow you're really from InsensitiveJerkistan??? Sweet! Well depending if you want to drive a lot or a little, and whoa re you trying to entertain?? Are you a "sight seer" or a "go hiker" or a "museum" kind of person??? Also someone may have something planned for that weekend, if not I'm sure there are peeps who can whip something up!

Ok here's the typical version - go out towards Girdwood, stop at the Animal Reserve, stop at alyeska, come back to anchorage and check out Earthquake Park stop somewhere for a BBQ/Outdoor feast?

Drive to Portage south of Anchorage check out Portage lake or go through the tunnel to Whittier and take the 26 glacier cruise. That catamaran goes fast! http://www.26glaciers.com/

Or hike flattop (Mt. behind Anch) if your into hiking, last bit near the top can be difficult. Round trip takes about 2 to 3 hours. Not into hiking, then it is a nice drive and there is a lookout near the parking lot for a good view of the city.

Want a less up hill hike? Winner Creek Trail in Girdwood, Echo Bend in Eagle River, or Ptarmigan Lake near Moose Pass (about 23 miles before Seward) all are 3 miles one way or less.

Food wise, Mooses Tooth for pizza, Tommy's Burger Stop for burgers, Club Paris for steaks. Snow City Cafe downtown for breakfast or lunch. Nicer places downtown, Simon and Seafort's, Glacier BrewHouse, and Orso's are good. Sullivan's is ok but the other 3 are better. Marx Bros. Café for very high end dining (get the Caesar salad)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have been on travel pretty much since I posted this and have been unable to read it or respond. It'll be me and a colleague and I think we'll probably just head South on Sunday like several people have mentioned. Maybe take the cruise if I can still get reservations.
