Talking Should I get this Olevia 32 LCD HDTV for 499? Circuit City

There's tons of HDTV threads out there but here's my first personal one.

i've been meaning to jump on the HDTV bandwagon and i think i found the perfect deal.

I'm very, very close into purchasing this 32 Olevia LCD HDTV! for only 499 (brand new) from Circuit City! It got awesome reviews too!

http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ....do?oid=163702

here's an actual video of the TV.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAQi6ZELM8Q

there's a Circuit City 5 miles from where I live that currently has it...i'm thinking of getting it after work...

does anyone have any personal experience with Olevia HDTV's?

I was looking at that one, but the reviews were overall mixed. Some loved it--some hated it. It's a great price, so if you do go for I wish you luck. In the end, we got the 32" Aquous on sale at Costco.

FWIW a friend of mine got the 37" Olevia and he loves it. Picture looks good on it, I think he paid $700 for it back in January.

^agreed.

But it's mainly going to be used in my room for Halo 3 (Sept 31).

I think it's just right for the price.

I think i'm getting it after work...

thanks guys.

I bought that a few weeks back for 549. slaps head. it's a good TV.

not many inputs, though. 1 hdmi, 1 component, 1 s-video...you get the drift.

I have an Olevia 537H 37" LCD, and it's great. The damn thing picks up HD channels with just a cable wire... no box, because the built-in tuners are that good.

The Circuit City page is taking forever to load, so I'm not looking at yours, Crees, but if it's one of the 5_ _ models, which are black - not silver - maybe it's the one with the built-in tuner, and maybe you're in good shape. Otherwise, it could basically just be a display, which is nice and all, but it's not a full-blown TV, per se. Be careful about that, Crees.

Yes. You don't need 1080i or P for a 32" tv. Hell I have an Olevia 37" and it has 720P and it is pretty darned good. The 1600:1 contrast could be better, but for what Creees has planned for it, it will do great.

I bought the 27" last night. My co-worker raved about the 32" (bang for the buck). If you buy a HD tuner, you'll need an HDMI cable. Here's a cheap site:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...d=10240&style=

Good luck, Creees!

I have that tv, its very very nice, and great for the price. Playing the 360 on it is lovely, only thing i can say is the built in speakers suck

unless you sit 3' away from your TV, you don't need it on a 32" screen.

^cause its dirt cheap. I got one for Christmas on special for $450 shipped, and love it. It is not the best, nor does it claim to be, but I am happy with the picture and abilities to date, had it for ~9 months.
Warranty is a bit less than some others out there, but with my CC, I get the bonus year anyhoo, so meh.
But for a 32" for $450? Sign me up! (plan to buy another next year and make that my gaming TV )

However as a tidebit of info to the OP, I have played 4 player Halo 2 on mine, and the image gets dicey in intense games. Single player/split screen was fine. Just a friendly FYI.

I would. As others said, read through the warranty. IIRC, most off-brand TVs have little to NO warranty support after the original 1 year manufacturer's warranty. So, basically, if your TV breaks after 1 year--you're screwed.

Picking up the CC warranty plan will be good. They're just like Best Buy, they'll send it to their service center where their techs will repair it at no cost. The only thing you'll be out is a TV for a few weeks.

Since manufacturers don't have standard to measure contrast ratio you really shouldn't use the numbers they publish when comparing TVs. The best way is go to store and look for yourself (just avoid stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.)

No one is going to spot the difference between 1080p and 720p on a 32" TV. You start seeing the difference between 1080p and 720 when you get to large screen TV (50"+) and even then only when you sit 6' (12' for 60" TVs) away from the screen.
