Yes I use the Autronic SM4 on my Subaru and on some customer's cars. I'm a dealer as well as a tuner.

The Autronic is the best standalone on the market bar none you are a retard if you disagree end of thread.

Seriously though. Unless you need all of the extra inputs/outputs of the Motec there is nothing in existence that can touch the Autronic.

In the last 6 months using an Autronic system we have:

Tuned two open class rally cars (most of the really fast guys in Rally America run the system). Installed it on a pair of civics we built. Both make over 600 wheel on our Dyno Dynamics and drive with the street manners of stock cars. We're currently waiting on a set of cams from Cosworth for an STi that wears a GT40r that runs Autronic.

Last year every Subaru that ran the pikes peak hill climb was ran on our Dyno at some point and every one that was fast had an Autronic.

I'm starting to horde parts for my new project with my RS. Should be the first Subaru in the 10's with no turbo. It's running an Autronic.

has anyone used SM4 on a 2004 USDM STi.

i know the Plugin ECU page says that the USDM STi is no good.

i'm looking to run Anti-Lag for the Auto-X along with a 2 stage limiter and WOT shifting.

and can't seem to figure out if i want the Motec M800 or the Autronic SM4.

Rummor has it that Autronic has a Drive by Wire solution, but one could always switch to drive by cable if your impatiant.

Give me a week or two. Ray from Autronic just got me a new chip to test which adds compatibility for the US STi triggering. I will be running the SM4 on my 04 STi engine using a WRX intake manifold and throttle body (cable).

The issue with the STi is in the trigger setup. The autronic as it sits needs a cam/crank signal with an even number of pickup points. The US market STi cams only have 3 pickup points. The chips to run odd numbered pickups have been out for a short while... but it's still not a plug and play solution.

Converting to cable throttle bodies is easy. I'm still using my USDM STi manifold with a cable TB.

As for a plug and play solution... a little birdie has told me to wait.

I've been running my US STi engine with an SM4 for about a week now. Ray figured out why the US setup is different and that was all it took. She fired right up and I've put around 500 miles on it so far.

Some new hardware is coming out as well to add functionality for A/C, TGV's, etc. all of which I'm not using on mine.

Don't expect to make big numbers on 90 octane. It's as simple as that. Adding a water injection kit would probably help a ton on that setup.

In the neighborhood of $2500+.

Furthermore, Autronic doesn't allow it's dealers to post pricing on the web. That said, you would have to directly contact one of them to get the actual price.

...water/alky injection is the way to go when low octane pump fuel is the only thing available....no doubt.

...and if I had the coin and were building a Subie the way I would LIKE to build it......an Autronic ECU would almost certainly be my choice

I've tuned an Autronic, it's by far the best EM that I have used once you get over the DOS style interface. I built a map from the ground up and have to say that the Autronic gives you all the control you need, plus more.

I see an Autronic in my cars future. Going to break it in with the ECU/UTEC combo and then switch to an Autronic

One small issue is the Autronic has no knock detection module for the Subaru. Tuning with det cans is required.

forget to add that i also have a water injection kit from snow performance ...i am not look for big number the car feels torque but i at least expect it to feel like 400+ car {planing on carrying it to the dyno in the future}

Thanks to all our supporters on this forum.

I'm trying to market my latest system to the Ford guys. Very difficult. Widebands rule over there. Drop a term like "det cans" and you are likely to get "WTF's?".

But then, most are satisfied with 650hp, so they aren't pushing their engines as hard as you guys are. Oh, they still worry about detonation, but their little pea brains haven't figured out that it might be a good thing to listen for it. They just want a "safe tune", doncha' know.

I signed up as a supporting vendor on modularfords. One guy did me a fave and posted a thread called "products that work".

Not a vendor on svtperformance, but I mention knock sensors in tuning threads and they must have me on ignore.

If you have some time to kill, search my screen name on both forums.

To see my latest version, click on the Vampire link at the top of my homepage. Won't work with the later Subaru coils, though. Need access to the coil negative wires. Very cool, though. No wires to cut, and any J&S wire can go to any coil!
