Default Metallic ringing noise from right front wheel??!?

I've got a 2001 Legacy w/ ~80,000 miles on it that has a intermittent quiet metallic ringing noise (sounds like something rubbing on the brake disk). I have put the brake pad quieter on, sanded the brake pads, and stoned the disk and this has no effect. I am pretty certain that it is not brake pad related at this point. I even pushed the brake cylinders back in and drove around using the hand brake - the noise was still there.

The noise seems to occur mainly on when turning left (and sometimes when going straight). It seems to get a bit louder if you turn hard. Braking does seem to stop the noise (but am not 100% sure). It will also ring if I drive in reverse turning right.

Could this be a wheel bearing going bad? Something else rubbing on the disk? Tie rod end? CV joint?

I was convinced it was brakes but I don't hear it when I lift up the front end and slowly rotate the front wheel.

Any help before I give up and take it to a mechanic?

Default Front right side...

Does this sound like a bearing issue?

Normally I would lean toward a poorly performing caliper piston, but usually whhen you mess around with each part of the brake like you did the noise would go away for at least a few days...so I'd lean more toward the bearing now. If I recall correctly the rear ones are usually a low resonating noise and the fronts are a loud high squeal. Not cheap.

I had a '98 that did this, and it ended up being the axle seal. Whether it was defective or damaged from some dealer-performed work, I don't know, but it would lightly drag against the axle and give a squealing/ringing noise when it was hot.

FWIW, my wife's '06 Outback is doing the same thing, so maybe it's not an uncommon problem.

****. Bearings?

When im driving around, my front end makes a sound as well. Im not sure if i would call it a ringing, but maybe more like a light pulseing sound. I have a torn cv boot, could this just be the axle going? i have a new one to replace it

does it stop (while moving) if you lightly touch the brakes?
