Post Help? Creaking & poping sounds from chassis

I have a MY01 2.5 RS with about 4000 miles on it. It has been making a creaking (actually popping) sound whenever the chassis experiences flex. This happens when driving over irregular pavement during a turn or when turning on to a street from a higher parking lot ect...The sound seems to be coming from the upper rear portion of the car near the back pillars. I took it in to my dealer and they said they hear the same sounds. However, instead of investigating where exactly it was coming from they decided to drive another customer's RS to see if it made the same noise. Of course they said it did so they feel it must be normal. I feel that they now have 2 cars with the same problem. Is anyone else out there experiencing the same sounds? Is the chassis these RSs that weak?

It may be the sunroof creaking, happened on my old car, not a subaru, but it still happened. check the sunroof, that would be my guess.

you said it yourself,
"It has been making a creaking (actually popping) sound whenever the chassis experiences flex"
You are going to hear some creaking when the chassis flexes, that is normal.

I know that some sound is going to be present when the chassis is flexing, but this is really loud. I have another car that drives the same route sometimes and there is no sound like this. Actually I have never heard it in any car. I have had friends in the car that have asked me what that popping sound is. I thought it may be sunroof but it is coming from the very back portion of the roof. Are there rails that run back that far? Since the sunroof panel goes up and over I don't know what all is between the roof and the headliner.

I know what you mean, I think that much noise is too much, if it were just normal sunroof-chasis creaking it wouldnt be that loud. I dont know exactly what it is, but I've herd that a struf tower bar eliminates many noises in peoples cars. I bet you a mill if you put a rear strut tower bar the noise will go away.

try it, there cheap (well kinda cheap)

It's possible that the rear sway bar is loose. Get a couple 14mm wrenches and try tightening it.

mine creaks.. constantly...
but i think that mine's worsened by the stiff suspension...

the creaking really is and seems to be a normal "subaru" thing...

Imprezas have tight enough suspensions that they cause chassis flex, however in other cars, the suspension is so soft there is relatively no chassis flex to make noise.

I always hear this popping/clicking noise coming from the back right of my car...seems that it was just that little seat belt pusher out thing. I just kinda tapped on it and ow it doesn't click and creak anymore...

I read somewhere that a rear strut tower bar eliminates some of the rear squeaking.

Unhappy

There are 2 location for my dealer here in KC, so I took my car into the other location and they had a tech ride with me. He said there is definitely something not right. He spoke with the service mgr. and they feel that a Subaru rep. should look at the car. I didn't want to wait for them to contact SOA so I did it myself and today a Subaru Midwest technical rep called and is setting up a time to come to KC and drive the car and figure out what the next step is. This sucks, I really love this car more than any I have owned and now I have this big problem with it. It only has 4800 miles on it and already stuff is not going well. I'm sure everything will work out but it may take awhile.
