Sorry man. Hope you are a beach guy. Also hope you can handle tourists. I was at Eglin for 2.5 years. Did not enjoy it. 95 degrees with 95% Humidity. It is an awesome place to go visit and party, but to live...
I am not trying to ruin your good news, just vent int my bad experience. I was there during 4 Hurricanes and with AFSOC. If you are going to buy a house, Niceville or Crestview. Go to the beaches in Destin. Party at Crab island, and go to McGuire's steakhouse. Good luck and congratulations.

<-- JEALOUS!

I had Eglin as #1 on my dream sheet. Three of the 5 open spots were at Eglin. I, of course, got the one base I didn't want that was on the list.

I cant go to Eglin, too hot for me even if I could! I was at Pensacola NAS for 6 months and it was hot as all hell!

I can only go to about 6 stateside locations and none of them are all that exciting...

The tourists themselves aren't that bad, but a 10 minute drive from base to the beach in the winter turns into an hour drive in the summer. if you do move to "Crestucky" take the Mid-Bay bridge to get to the beach vs. going the long way. Also, there is a federal prison on base. One night in 2004 a man escaped and the SF's were searching for him all night. Have fun with that.
