My 02 is in bad shape. Nasty storms on Thursday put my baby under water up to the base of the gear shift. Smells like a decaying animal inside. Trying to upload video having problems. Curious on your thoughts. . . . .
![]() Totaled or not? ECU I know is cooked. Anybody ever run into this problem? Could the car be fixed?

How does the insurance company handle this if it is totaled? Do they give you retail? wholesale? The car has 138,000 on it and is in mint condition. . . .minus the water and smell now. What would I be looking at?

Well when my G20 was smashed, dealers were selling them for ~5995.
They wanted to give me $2000. We threatened a lawsuit against the person who smashed me, and they fixed the car, $5500 worth of damages. So its hit or miss. Since your damage was caused by mother nature you can't really do much. They'll probably give you KBB "good" condition. |

Ok this is what you do.
1) call insurance see if they will cover it (if the answer is no then proceed) 2) do not attempt to start the car and disconnect the battery. 3) drain the engine tranny and rearend to see if they have water in them. if they do continuing is more of a gamble do to bearing issues that may arise in the future. 4) replace old fluids with new fluids 5) remove the entire interior place fans inside the car to help dry it out. 6) pressure wash the carpet and steam clean the seats using a pet odor cleaner. 7) wipe down all interior surface with a bleach water mix to kill any nasty's 8) remove ecu to dry out and remove cover to inspect for damage. 9) reinstall ecu, connect battery and attempt to start the car listen for the fuel pump. the car should turn over regardless 10) if the car does not start borrow a friends ecu or buy an ecu from nasioc or a good ebay source. 11) install cleaned interior while waiting for the new ecu. 12) if the new ecu starts the car you are good and enjoy the car for many miles to come. I am speaking from experience. I have rehabbed a few flood cars with a dealer friend of mine over the years. |

thanks for the info 2superblus! I didn't read this before trying to start. This happened on Thursday and I have tried every day since. I just tried it and it started throughing a 1560 code? I'm not sure what to do now. Insurance will cover it so I don't know if I wish it were fixed or not. I just want to be able to trust it again. I drive 120+ miles a day.

Mine was 11k with 70k on the od. After financing and getting screwed with some BS roadside/dent removal service, it came out at about 16k or something. Still pissed about that Cali based POS company that is supposed to fix my dent!

Wow, real bummer. If they cover the car, use the money to buy a new one but keep the old one, tear it down and make a racer out of it. If you do what 2superblus told you to do, wich he obviously knows from experience, you should be able to salvage and refurbish most of the parts. My biggest conscern would be the ECU. Good luck with the insurance company.
