Too much body cladding. Looks like a Legacy Avalanche.

It does look like a Legacy Outback with the hind chopped. Seemed that the Prototype concept was flashier. But the bed unfolds to truckbed lenght in a fascinating and patented way. It looks to toned down but it will sell. I want to hear more details on it before I jump to the truck style for me. I love wagons!

I actually don't think its too bad. Except for the way the body cladding and the waistline angle up to the back of the car. Makes it look like it has a really fat backend. Kind of like the F-150 and Corvette. Oh, and the fact that there's a lot of fender gap around the front wheel and not nearly as much in back.

Default Real disappointment

No H-6. No dual-range tranny. No Switchback (it became just a pass-through). Probably same lousy towing capacity.

The website mentions the switchback. Did they just keep the name and get rid of the functionality?

Thumbs down

No 3.0L H6...It's an underpowered legacy wagon with the back end chopped off. The STX concepts looked more like a pickup truck, maybe it's just the clearance.

Concept picture.

Well, my dad has been thinking of getting a truck for awhile...

And I bet the Cobb Intake and all the other mods will fit the 2.5 still...

But ya, WAY too much ugly side molding, but I like the legacy headlights.

Default Looking at that ST-X photo...

I can tell the rear door on the Baja is larger, so I guess rear seat room is better. Probably equal to the Outback. As a result, I think the Baja's bed is a bit shorter than the ST-X bed.

2.5 + supercharger or 3.0
this was the only way I would get it...

The term "beaten with the ugly stick" comes to mind.

3L engine would have been nice.
Really should've kept it supercharged though.

Bummer. It had lots of promise, now it's going to do just as well as every other underpowered SUV.

I like it. I think that is my next daily driver. Do you think a dirt bike would fit in the back with the gate open? The 2.5 motor was excellent in my RS. With some different rims and a different color it would look nice.

I wonder how it would look WITHOUT the dual-tone side moulding? (Like how the Legacy GT's and L's are compaired to the outback's)

Default A mountain bike should fit...

You may(?) have to remove the front wheel, or mount it on an angle with the front wheel on the roof.

As to monochrome—yes, if you order it with the Silver Stone paint, which is the same color as the cladding. If you go to the web site, you can see the color swatches. When you click on a color, the picture of the Baja changes color.

www.subarubaja.com

If you compare the pixs of the original ST-X, the production Baja DOES look better. You really need to compare the two side-by-side to see the differences. They're fairly substantial. The rear passenger area is bigger. The rear door is different. The cladding is different, and so on...

Anyone notice that the Baja seems to have the old Outback grill?

Thumbs down booo

I gotta tell you, I am really disappointed in the BAJA. The 2.5L engine is NOT sufficient in an Outback as it is let alone a pickup-crossover vehicle.

I am beginning to wonder if SOA is really into performance or not- the least they could have done was offer the H6 with this vehicle, much less the Supercharged EJ25 they had on the concept car.

I remember that the EJ25 supercharged got alot of attention from enthusiasts- but SOA decided not to include it- along with other things..

Great concept, crappy execution- I just hope it sells and doesn't drag SOA down.

I think the concept is pretty good. But not sure about the engine. For an utility vehicle it could use a more powerful engine.

It is pretty bad. They should have made it a two door with a bigger bed. Subaru could have come up a cool modern Brat based of the WRX. If I could haul my dirt bike in the back of my WRX I'd be super psyched.

Where did the body cladding come from? Did they get all the Aztek designers?

Default no way

hey subaru:

i was going to trade in my Outback for a ST-X--but you drop the 17" wheels, the 8.5" clearance, the hood scoop, locking low range tranny, the supercharger. OK ok the S/C I can understand, but 2.5? never. 3.0 H6, maybe.

forget it--it offers nothing over my OB wagon. and it's fugly.
