Default BMW to sell AWD 335 coupe

BMW has announced it will offer an all-wheel drive option for the 3-series coupe, the 335xi. An all-wheel drive option has been available on the 3-series sedan for some time now, but this marks the first time the option will be available on the coupe. Power remains unchanged at 300 horsepower from the twin-turbo straight six.

Thanks to the added traction, the 335xi is actually faster than its rear-wheel drive counterpart to 60 by about a tenth of a second. The xDrive AWD system also allows variable distribution of drive forces between the front and rear wheels, depending on wheel slippage. The 335xi coupe will hit showrooms in the first half of next year.

Haven't we known about this for years? Edit: Maybe not in the coupe!

It's faster to 60, but slower everywhere else...nice if you live up north I guess.

I'll take the better real-world acceleration, gas mileage, and handling of the standard 335.

If it is still using the really rear biased system, it won't even be that great in the snow. Nothing like the audi S5.

Hmmmm, is there really a market for an AWD coupe?

I figure if you're fairly practical and want the AWD, you'd want the 4dr sedan too.... <shrug>

I wouldn't mind a 2 door WRX and If I could afford the 335xi I'd be all over a coupe.

My back seat was never sat in,Maybe once -I was back there.
So I would love a coupe, the long doors are nice too.Everytime I go to the BMW dealer and look at 335 I shake my head, sigh and go home thinking out of my league. The base price an't so bad but there always loaded up and close to 50K.

My 335i was 46k out the door well equipped with quite a few options. Not terrible, but not the ticket price for everyone.

I love the sedan in RWD, but to each their own, if BMW sees a market for it, by all means. They seem to be pretty good at picking their fights in general.

I can not believe how far the computer lets you go btwn oil changes in BMW's,Some of the mini's go like 20K miles btwn changes.I would like to know how far the 335 is going btwn changes esp.with the oil getting really hot from the turbo's.
Some of the reviews I read btwn the g35 coupe and 335 the 335 would shut down from hot oil.

Agreed, I'd much rather go rwd than awd, a good set of snows and a brain will cover much of the difference.

A quality oil with a good additive package can certainly withstand a 10k OCI, the same goes for a good Oil Filter. Besides BMW CPO wouldn't warranty their cars with 100,000 miles if they didn't believe in the quality of the OEM oil and OEM oil filter.

Actually the absurd OCI that BMW advertises is purely driven by marketing and making their cars appear to require minimal maintenance. Every BMW publication and technician etc that I've heard of recommends you do them more often.

Well that is a given, especially if you plan on buying the car. Now if its a lease... you get the point.
