Default If you had $10K to build an 07 STI, what would you do?

I have recently popped the #4 cylinder of my 07 LTD, now it is time to build something better, faster, stronger. I am working with a bunch of good parts already, I have an FP Green, Turbo XS TMIC, UTEC Delta, and of course, intake and exhaust. I would like to keep the car as stealth as possible, and I am looking at doing a built bottom end and some cams on the new build. I have been thinking that I should stick to the TMIC, even though it may limit a bit of power, I don't want to cut anything. I would love to get some suggestions as to what would be some of the best ways to go about the build. My local shop of choice has told me that I am looking at about $5500 to do a built bottom end and that is all inclusive of machining, R&R, parts, etc. We have talked about a few possibilities, but I am open to suggestions. I am ultimately using this vehicle as my Daily Driver, and want reliability, but I also love to go to the drag strip, and I would like to auto cross. Give me your ultimate build ideas for spending about 7-10K on this project. I am also thinking that I should definitely send the turbo out to get it upgraded to 8cm, and external waste gate. I am also thinking headers would be a good upgrade.
Here is a link to see most of the current mods, and the style I am trying to stay with. I obviously want to use as much of what I already have, but now is the time to make any major changes. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2470543/1.

I missed fifth gear at the track, and it over revved. Chalk this up to user error...

If you insist on staying stealth/keeping the green/ tmic:

http://axispowerracing.net/stage2motor.html (2,500)
get the 8cm green
cosworth cams
headers
fuel pump/injectors if you havent already
meth inj
clutch/flywheel (i like my ACT 6puck)

this setup should get you in enough trouble and be less than 10k

That sounds pretty good, although I would like something that can rev to 8K. Maybe the stage 3 is a better way to go. I figure with the 07 gears, I could trap mid-high 120's without shifting to 5th. I also already have the Exedy twin disk clutch, so I'm good there. I also have the fuel pump, and 800 cc modified injectors. The injectors may get upgraded depending on the total.

^ you might want to get an intake with that setup though, either big MAF perrin style or blow through etc.

for something that will spin to 8K and make power up there, WAY more than 10K will be needed... sad but true..

And even if you somehow got an engine package that will spin that high for that little money, i doubt your turbo will be able to flow enough air to do much up there anyhow...

then there are the added hidden expenses associated with the engine swap itself... It isn't as straighforward or as cheap as it seems. One thing leads to the next and then so on..

2500 for an sti shortblock with pistons?...if paying for the machining and labor you may as well get some rods while you're in there

built shortblock...which one would really be dependant upon what you wanted to do, especially as auto-x and drag are opposite ends of the spectrum if you are trying to be competitive.

I would get real EM first. A completely built motor (heads too) would be next. Clutch, injectors and meth would then follow it up. you have now left room and safety for a rotated mount if you decide the green isn't enough.

I'd drive my new STi to the casino with my $10k and double it.

^^ this guy is right...

20K is more in line with what you will be needing... even more if you plan on upgrading everything as mentioned above such as clutch, turbo, ecu, etc etc etc...the game isn't cheap...at all....

I already have most of the stuff....clutch, turbo, ecu, and some of the etc, etc. I have to do the block, no matter what, I want to do cams, and from there, headers, maybe even suspension.

^good point.

I'd replace the blown stocker with another oem block. 30r, fmic, and the rest of the supporting mods. <-----coming from a guy that has had 3 motors, 2 tranny's, 5 turbos, etc. keep it simple, the oem block will handle plenty of power, not worth going crazy. you'll end up breaking more parts than you can keep up with. I've invested 26k+ in my last build, and havent driven it for 10 months.

find 1 company and stick to all their suggestions.

example:
pdxtuning/perrin
Crawford/I-speed

^that was my path...........You will get treated better by your tuner/shop/whatever if you do everything with 1.

OP, whatever you do, keep it simple. Add water/meth injection too

So it looks like I may go for the FMIC, GT30R, external waste gate, built bottom end and other minor supporting mods.

I think that everyone is forgetting about the JDM STI motor. That spins up to 8Kand still produces power. If you cant get a new one=14K. Contact Kingpin in arizona

Andrewtech Automotive is performing the build, and we are going with the new Turbo XS GT30R .82 turbo, FMIC, External wastegate, and such. I believe they are doing Wiseco pistons, and Eagle rods. I am also upgrading valvesprings and retainers, but everyone has told me that cams cause lots of issues, and won't make much difference on the 07 with the new head design.
