Default Computer woes. This thread contains fail.

Over the past 10-11 months I've been slowly putting a core 2 duo together. I finally get all the parts I need and load XP on it. For some reason I was messing with the DVI cable in the back and some how managed to pop the vid card clip open and half the card unplugged from the MoBo. When I went to power up, fail ensued... power supply hissed at me, sparked, and then burnt out. I was hoping it was just the power supply that crapped out, but that's definitely not the case. I replaced the psu and boot up... As soon as I flip the power switch to the on position, the fans turn on and the cd-rom LED is on, but pressing the power button in the front does nothing...

Any troubleshooting suggestions? I have a neighbor whom I'm going to ask to test some parts on, but other than that, I wanna find out if the MoBo is crapped out. As you can imagine I'm highly pissed and frustrated... I also need to take a dump.

Wait, you basically unplugged the video card while the computer was on, causing an arc that killed the power supply (complete with sparks and noises.) Now that the motherboard is powering on but not POSTing you are asking for additional troubleshooting steps? (Note: I'm repeating the question as best I understand it.) Ouch, that really sucks.

Answer: The only thing you can try is another video card really. Other than that, it's highly likely that you took the board out with the power supply.

Sorry man, no good news here.

Yes correct... no POST. Looks like it's back to newegg for another. I thought about maybe taking it to a local computer shop and getting it tested out.

probably not worth it.

Reset the BIOS, disconnect all peripherals, take out all cards and remove the RAM- then try powering it on- if no angry 'RAM Absent' beeps ensue, yore board is definitely teh borked.

Given that he already released the magic smoke and had a special little pyrotechnics show...I wouldn't even bother with standard stuff like resetting the BIOS and disconnecting things, etc.

I would say get a new mobo myself. And possibly RAM. Borrow a friend's mobo if you can to test. Bonus if he can lend some RAM just in case as well.

I'm glad mine isnt the only one ****ting the bed..

It started acting wierd and stuttering while watching videos. Now it just locks up or goes blacked screened with HD light staying on. I can power cycle it and it will boot up but just crash a few minuets later by it self.

Hey man, I'm originally from FWB. I have a good friend that owns/runs Command Computers in Destin and Niceville. He may be able to help you out

I had the same symptoms when my psu was crapping out on my last computer.

I was patient and slowly built mine up over time. I may start building another one up for the hell of it. This kind of felt like watching some grade A porn then getting kicked in the nuts 3 times unexpectedly.
