Impreza WRX STi What is the spark plug looking thing on my exhaust pipe?

Hey, I'm obviously a newbie and I have a question?
Do you know what the plug is on the exhaust pipe? It almost looks like a spark plug and it has a wire (yellow) running from it to the front of the car. I also found this plug under my car about near the middle of the car and on the exhaust pipe.

Any ideas???
Thanks

That'd be your oxygen sensor.

OHHHHHH thats where it is... Thanks so much I was wondering what the hell that was.. And could that be causing the slight rattling that i hear sometimes when I'm idling(usually when cold) or when I'm driving. It almost sounds like a metallic rattle.

More than likely, that rattle is not coming from an 02 sensor. They are screwed in so tite that they can be a pain to remove. I would guess that it might be an exhaust hanger making noise until it gets hot and the metal expands.

is the rattling coming from under the car?
heat shields are notorious for this.
turbo heat shields especially, but there could be another exhaust one below making noise.

Yes the noise is coming from under the car. Under and near the middle of the car. And a couple of people already thought it was a heat shield. I'm gona have my mechanic look at it tonight and see.
