Default Out of ideas... vf39 help

hey guys,

i have a 2005 wrx
used vf39
deatschwerks 565 inj
fuel pump
colder plugs
perrin inlet
cobb catted downpipe
invidia uppipe
sti tmic
forge boost controller set at 19
openecu tuned by junior

the last couple days i checked and re-checked everything for leaks and used soapy water around all my hoses and connections. i dont think its an exhaust leak b/c the car doesnt sound like it has an exhaust leak and i just passed my NYS inspection two days ago.

let me go over whats happening - the turbo will spool up just fine, and holds boost (18.5psi)... it just doesnt have any oomph. the car will accelerate but with half the turbo power. two weeks ago i picked up the car from TheShop and it ran great putting 291hp/290tq to the wheels on a dyno dynamics tuned by Junior. took it for a ride and whoa what a difference from stage 2.

the next day one of the injectors was leaking like a mofo and had it towed back to TheShop and they fixed everything. it ran ok again.

about 2 days ago is when i experienced my current problem... the lack of power. the turbo spools fast and still holds boost.... but still no power (slower than stg 2). feels like its pulling timing, but not sure why because it was tuned great. yesterday i started the car and after warmup and 20 min of easy driving a CEL came on and i had the codes pulled at autozone: P0420 and P0546. are these codes related or just a fluke and need to reset the ecu?

its very similar to JasonNeon's thread but I've been tuned. i need help diagnosing the problem... a fellow member is going to try and help me this afternoon and get a datalog so any suggestions are appreciated.

Evan

That's weird. Normally with a tune it will eliminate those two codes. Stage 2 ots map removes the cat deficiency and the EGT probe codes. Those codes wouldn't make you run slow though. Definitely reset the ECU. They probably just never got cleared.

Maybe you're getting used to the power?

It could be pulling timing. Can you get us any logs?

^^ I am sure it is not a matter that he is use to the power. Check it, as you could really be pulling timing.
Try and do a log and check your settings.

today's plan to drive and get some help from a fellow member was cancelled due to poor weather. re-scheduled for early tomorrow and get some datalogs. he also has a scanner so we'll remove the codes and reset the ecu. still gotta figure out why the car is pulling timing and losing power. hypothetically speaking, by looking at the datalogs, what do i do if in fact the ecu is pulling timing?

oh and btw, i've tried calling junior several times over the course of the week and he hasnt picked up nor called me back. im fully aware of his usual busy schedule but im certainly disappointed at this point. im sure you can all understand my frustration as i paid to have a fun car and its running like crap.

Im pretty sure the EGToverheat code will pull timing, fuel and boost, or at least try with the boost. Its to prevent damage to the uppipe cat. If your getting that code, you could be in limp mode.

Junior should have fixed that table..it's the egt limit table.

IIRC that will put the car in failsafe mode and run off the failsafe fuel/timing maps.

ok so myself and another fellow member did a bunch of 2nd and 3rd gear pulls while datalogging and everything came up okay. no timing was being pulled, boost was holding, and no knock. however, the CEL still comes on even after we deleted the codes. datalogs showed no difference in power with the CEL on or off.

it was really hot today so im sure heatsoak was a bit of an issue but other than that, no problems.

we concluded that i just got used to the power really quickly lol

p.s. i also realized that my sti tmic had been rubbing against my a/c line and started leaking today and now i have no frion ha

i greatly appreciated Jay-R's help today and have to figure out a way to not drive around with a CEL 24/7

sucks about the ac line. My ebay one touches it. I put a piece of rubber hose between them. Hopefully it will prevent that.
