Subaru Stars help TXIC about 2.5i header....

I have a 06 2.5i. i know my header is EL. I am thinking about getting a UEL. I know that EL puts out more power but i want the Boxer sound from the UEL. My question is how big is the power loss between the EL and the UEL? Is it big enough to worry about and consider not getting the UEL? thanks in advance to all who can help me

Blake

All formatting jokes aside, the power difference will be one you can feel... on an NA subaru, unequal = not much gain...

I would go with the extra power over the sound.

you say this, but equal length headers really help the powerband... It was one of the best mods I ever did...

You are only looking at about a 4-6 hp difference between EL and UEL headers. The hard part to compare is not how much horsepower difference there is, but where that horsepower will be. Equal length headers really increase torque through the midrange, the 'powerband' as Danz said. Excellent for acceleration through 2nd and 3rd. UEL headers provide more flow at higher rpm's, meaning they usually make more power at the top end. Since your motor isn't really designed to make a lot of power at the top end like the turbo motors do, you might actually like the unequal length header better. It will place more power in the rpm range the motor is weak, making it _feel_ more driveable. Overall, you will have lost a little bit of power, but you will have moved the power you did gain to a more useable place in the powerband.

Hope that all makes sense to someone...bottom line, i don't think you are going to be dissapointed with the UEL header, i think it's the best choice for the n/a cars.

Don't let these guys get to ya...heh, it's awesome to see people modding out the n/a's...reminds me of the old RS days!

like danz said, EL is the way to go. I really miss my old MRT long tubes...

btw: they help over the entire band(mine pulled HARD, all the way to redline), not just in the middle like Squidz suggested.

It's really what you are looking for. EL=more power, UEL=boxer rumble. I had the Borla replicas (UEL) and they made the car sound way better.

Um.......no.
Last time I checked, all the cars in F1 were running EL headers at some pretty high rpms.

Holy Crap. I was speaking very generally about header designs, and _IN GENERAL_ UEL headers tend to increase high end more, and EL headers tend to increase your midrange more. That doesn't mean that an EL header won't flow to 15000 rpms, cause it will...Honda's do it all the time, but it will make more power at 6000rpm than it does at 12000. That also doesn't mean that unequal length headers won't make any power in the midrange, because they will, Nissan's do it all the time, but they will certainly carry more horsepower to redline with them. In general, Shorter primaries will give you more top end power, and longer primaries will give you more low-midrange power. (note however, that i am talking about a n/a car here, since that's what he was asking about.)

Sorry if it was misleading in any way, but you guys are a bit too literal when it comes to this ****.
