Default Update

After 6+ months the Tanabe SRM is LOUD. It's all fun and games when you're having fun however it's LOUD for normal day driving. Passengers hardly ever like the sound ... but I don't really care what they think since it's my car ... but it would be nice sometimes to have things quite. It's just nice to be able to droan out V8s so easily when they "try" to rev at me "thinking" I'm a rice boy. I have gotten nothing but complements from ricers > enthusiasts.

WRX + Tanabe Super Racing Medallion + 7K rpm + backfire + under a concrete bridge = VERY loud thunder and BOOM. Especially for those V8s 3ft from my Tanabe on the left.

I just ordered a Apex'i N1 from AFS. I looked at both the Apex'i and the Tanabe Racing, the only thing that made me go with the N1 was the fact that ive seen several other RS's with them. Plust the fact that my buddy has a tanabe racing medallion on his 00 civic si and i wanted to be diffrent from him. Hope it doesnt sound too ricey , would like to have a little bit of a rumble. Shawn at AFS said they dont have the N1's in stock either and that he could have me one in 2 weeks, and they have been really good so far so im not worried. Far as looks both exhausts look about the same except the apexi has a longer tip than the tanabe.

Just a note. After welding the loose flange, It warped a little. Had to double up the gasket at the HKS downpipe/Tanabe SRM junction.

Pick up a good polish for this too. I got a tube of blue magic (karparts) for $5, works great. Leaves a silicon residue to protect the exhaust, and leaves it nice and shiny. Haven't tried any other stainless steel polishes to compare it to but I'm happy with it.

I am a proud owner of a Tanabe "but I sponsored it myself" WRX. So far I have the Tanabe SRM exhaust, Sustec Pro coilovers, strut brace and under brace.

The exhaust is full polished SS 3" except when it gets to the flange that connects to the third cat. Right before the flange, it tapers down to 2.5". So I guess the option would be: a: hook it up to the stock donut flange on the third cat with no problems or b: Cut off the flange before it tapers and get an adaptor piece from a muffler shop (with either a donut or flat flange) that will hook up to a 3" aftermarket downpipe. That way it will be 3" all the way.

The exhaust sounds great with a deep Boxer rumble. It does not sound ricey because it accentuates a Boxer motor and not a N/A inline four. If it's too loud for some, throw on the silencer and it will cut down on the bass and sound much quieter. Install was easy and no clunking with all stock hangers. It snugs up pretty tight under the bumper as well. People can't help but notice the shiney cannon sitting under the bumper.

It definitely looks and sounds nice ... just a little too loud unless you're having fun.

The silencer makes it very quiet. So if it's too lound use it. I don't use it, it's not too loud to me. I can hear the stereo just fine

for what i've been hearing, the Tanabe SRM catback is a beast ~ can anyone post a sound clip of the Tanabe Super Racing Medallion just by itself with no other add-ons...i want to compare sounds with the Blitz Nur Spec and HKS TI/Ca.

thanks, sy

I love mine, it has a nice tone. It's like it was tuned like an instrument or something

hey everyone, i just had my exhaust put on, i love it sounds just the way i wanted it to. hopefully it will get louder after awhile.

does anyone else have trouble using the silencer? its so hard to put it in and get the holes lined up. and i have to use a leatherman to pull it out. are there any special ways of putting the silencer in or something? thanks!

How about that sound clip? Would really like to hear the super racing at idle and at higher revs...

Anyone?

No sound clip required! Just installed the bad boy on the ride!

Sounds sweet!!!! Not as loud as I thought from all of the warnings posted above.

It has a deep grumble at idle but it is definently louder behind the car than within - even with windows down. I had a buddy trail me while WOT and then switched and it may upset the neighbours more than the passengers.

Safe driving everyone!
