Default both low beams went out at the same time, huh?

2005 RS

Sylvania Silverstars(I know just read up on them) 5 Months Old

gf went to leave last night and they worked for about 10 seconds then they both went out at the same time

checked fuses and relays and both came out good(used a meter), high beams work perfect

checked the headlight housing itsself and with the lights in the off position it was not receiving power on both of them and when I went to turn them on they were receving a steady 12v to them.

The thing is I've never seen BOTH headlights go out at the same time and was wondering if I should check something else out first before I go get some new bulbs, obviously not silverstars now.

thanks

It's been known to happen. The only thing I'd check is the system voltage at the battery, it should not be much more than 14 volts with the engine running. If it's 15 or above you may have a problem with the alternator and that can cause bulbs to blow prematurely.
If the voltage is ok you can try your stock bulbs if you still have them, otherwise put some replacements in. And yes stay away from the Silverstars, aside from not really producing more useful light they do not last very long.

Same thing happened to me on a long road trip where I was flipping the high beams on and off. Eventually, both low beams burned out at the same time. I have JDM fogs and the fog light mod (which keeps fogs on when the high beams go on). I also had Silverstars in.
