Default Borla catback

For anyone interested:
I purchased the Borla catback system through the groupbuy from Renick motorsports. Installation was a breeze (about 30min, taking your time) and the sound is very nice.... BUT.....

For me, inside the car, the sound could get quite "droney" or "pulsing" for lack of a better description. At approx. 3K rpms, in any gear, a harmonic frequency is hit that causes some very intrusive pulsing resonations that cause conversations between occupants to cease or halt that may be occurring inside the car, and a couple of times, would even cause ears to pop! No joking! Solution for me, was to have a straight-through resonator installed just after the cat, at the leading edge of piping on the Borla system. This has eliminated the 3K heavy pulsing resonation, and left the good sounds coming out of the tailpipe. As far as performance gains/losses due to this installation and (later) modification, I can't really tell. So, my consensus, is that the performance increase is negligible. I wasn't looking for loudness, so, for some who might purchase this catback and are debating doing the mod that I did w/resonator addition, may not be necessary for you. Good exhaust regardless.

P.S. Only other engine mods are the intake resonator mod...

The easiest answer is to just replace the muffler. The stock pipe that holds the resonator is a staight through design already. Since the rest of the exhaust is of the same diameter I doubt if there is an advantage in replacing this pipe.

Not to be an arse but, I noticed that you have a GC8 2.5RS and not a WRX, maybe that could be the difference too?
