So I looked at my orders today, im going to Aviano. I also have the option of going to yakota through ARMS.
Anyone have input on either of the two bases?
Positives, negatives, and fun stuff to do off duty/ base

Oh boy....hard decision. I have wanted to go to Italy my whole life (I have family that lives in Sicily.....that I have never met so I wouldnt show up at their doorstep...lol).

And Tokyo.....do I need to say more?

Both are GREAT assignments.....you have a hard choice there

What is your job again? Aviano is a fighter base and Yokota is a heavy base.....completey two different missions.....so depending on your job that could help you decide I personally would rather be at a heavy base. Fighter Wings are more fast paced and I would not mind a change

Pending on what job you have polarisboy385. Aviano from what i heard is oh right.. but the location of it allows you to travel to other countries very easy. Europe is smaller than the U.S. so traveling from Italy to Germany is like driving from Texas to Oklahoma. you can probably bring your car there from the states and drive the Nurburgring...

I was never station at Yokota but driven through there several times from Misawa.. Being next to Tokyo is awesome but the car scene isn't as big on base. to get to some of the worlds famous tracks will take you about 2 hours or longer to get there. if you like living in large cities full of people then Yokota would be the place to be. Cars are cheaper out there too.

So apparently I can't switch bases, but as some of you have stated and others have stated as well, it is the base of all bases to go to. So I'm stoked, once all my clearances go through, I'll be going in June... I'm stoked!

speaking of...Ive seen numerous modded wrx's and sti's around bragg an fayetteville and Im just curious if anybody on here is from bragg or knows any decent shops in the area to get some work done. There are plenty of shops but I have no idea if any of them are respectable.

I haven't been anywhere near as into modding my car since I got back here last year, but I've heard good things about the shop that's out somewhere near the back side of the Crown Coliseum (take Owen Dr. past Hwy 301). They also have an All-Wheel Dyno.

I just started tech school on Thursday. We also had a down friday, so I've only been to orientation. But i think I'll like it. As long as my clearance goes through (too many PDI's) I'll be sent over to Italy

You at tech school or are you operational?

Italy will be nice. We have two people here with an assignment to Italy; One going to Aviano, one going to Ghedi. CP is a decent job. Very unique career field. Can be very stressful at times also. I've been operational for 13 years. LOL
