Default Thinkin of geting the hydra

hey all dont really post alot in here but i got A question ill list mods i think its my STOCK ECU.

2.5 Sti Sb W/WRX heads
TurboXs FMIC
Perrin GT30 Kit
Agency power fuelrails(they suck VIVID RACING FTL)
Deatschwerks 850cc's
STOCK ECU

the car is hesitant alot it sucks for reg driving i think this may be because of the injector size on the 2.0L ECU ,also do most of you use a catch can in ur subaru's well you guys that really need catch cans cuz i lost some oil about 1/2 quart and i dont think i burned it off also which hydra would i need for my motor im not running forged pistons its high compression with that wrx head

Do you not currently have any sort of EM (engine management) or a flash or tuning done on the ECU? The stock ECU cannot deal with that large of injectors and any EM will be a HUGE help to stop you from ruining your motor, if that is the case.

Either find another tuner or have your current one fix the tune. The car should drive like stock. A Hydra will only make your life a nightmare. The factory ECU does a great job if it is set up correctly, even with a big MAF and injectors.

I guess to each there own?? Personally I love my Hydra. Although, you can get someone to just tune your stock ECU better, I am not suggesting you *need* a Hydra for your setup.

I can say there are definitely some tuning issues with the Perrin BigMAF that comes with the Perrin rotated kits. But if the tuner knows what to do, it can easily be tuned around. Your other option is to get rid of the BigMAF and go with a blow through setup.

As for getting the Hydra, it's not a necessity with your setup. There are some issues with the Hydra that if you don't have a competent Hydra tuner in your area, you will fumble through them and get frustrated. For example, I haven't been able to get my car to consistently come to an idle without stalling out. Tim Bailey came into town this past weekend, adjusted one setting (which I'm almost positive Phil told me not to mess with as it's for the throttle by cable cars) and my car holds an idle no matter how much I try to make it stall out. I am also still having some very low throttle (<10***37; TPS) bucking because the AFR's are in the 16:1 range. But if I richen it up to fix the problem, then my off throttle AFR is like 15:1 instead of 18:1 to 20:1 and the car doesn't decelerate. But I'm slowly working through them.

For someone that does not understand the tuning concept, the Hydra is not for that person.

We actually have a base map very close to what you need so really it shouldn't be difficult at all to get the Hydra running great with your setup. The STI shortblock/WRX heads hybrid does require a special map to deal with the different compression ratio.

Thanks,
Phil
