Default Not reaching target (stock boost)

I hooked up my tactrix cable yesterday and did a log of a 1-2 gear pull. I noticed that my manifold pressure was maxing out around 7.2 while the target boost was 13. something ... I will try again today and do a log then post it up. The previous owner put on a after market solid up pipe. Does this seem like a boost leek somewhere? What readings should I log to diagnose the problem.

Max boost is limited in the first 2 gears.

Also, make sure you are looking at manifold relative pressure. If you are still only making 7 psi, then squeeze the boost line from the turbo to the T-connection and try to find something solid in the middle of the line. There is a restrictor pill that is supposed to be there. If it isn't there, your wastegate will open early and you won't hit your target boost. Also, the other people are right, you won't make full boost until you hit 3rd gear.

Yesterday during 3rd gear pull on the ramp, my boost gauge showed 1.3 bars, cobb stage 2....that's around 18 psi...what gives.

You might need to adjust your wastegate actuator arm. Do a search for that thread. It will take a few adjustments to get it right. Cobb stage 2 target boost is 16.5psi +/- .7 psi. Also, try checking your boost using the AP to see if how your boost gauge compares.

Tried third today but Im still seeing a peak of around 7.2 psi. Im going to log to a file today and post it up... Also does anyone have a link to the explanation of the Subaru turbo system components (valve, ect...)

Also could this be caused by a leak in the uppipe?

Thats's possible, but have you checked the boost line off of your turbo for the restrictor pill? Squeeze the hose and feel for something solid at about the middle of that line.

sounds to me like you had enough knock to bring your Ignition Advance Multiplier down below the boost cutoff threshold.

What are your wastegate duty cycles? If they are all 0's, then your IAM is probably less than 6.

If that is all good, then you need to do what people are saying and check to be sure your restrictor is in the proper location.
If it is, then give your wastegate actuator arm a tug. See how tight it is. TDO4 turbos have crappy actuators that need adjustment from the factory quite often. Tighten that sucker up two turns and see where it goes.

A leak in the up pipe would cause less than target boost, however, it would have to be a huge leak to give you only 7.2psi. It would be EXTREMELY audible.

Log: wastegate duty, Manifold Absolute pressure, TPS, RPM, IAM. Then post it up.

I took apart the boost lines and found the pill inside. Its there alright. otherwise lines seem ok. Tried another pull today but I was boosting a litle less probably b/c I am running 91 octane at the moment. I tried tugging the waste gate arm today and it did move with some resistance. How tight is it suposed to be?

i am pretty sure the wastegate screws in and out... try making small turns. and if you are knocking from the 91 the ecu will pull boost and timing.

I had to adjust my wastegate arm first to get to stock levels, then I had to adjust it more to stage 1 levels. I'd say I turned it about 5 or 6 times. I am hitting target boost now, and sometimes going over by just a little (.3psi) But I've adjusted my wastegate settings to compensate -- they were a little agressive.

Remove turbo heat shield, take the E-clip off of the arm of the wastegate actuator, disconnect the arm from the wastegate, loosen the nut on it, and then spin the arm to make it tighter and the arm shorter. Reconnect everything in reverse order.

I tried tightening the waste gate actuator arm but that only raised the boost by .2 or so. At this point I think that it is a busted solenoid valve which is causing my problems because it seems that my car is boosting around the mechanical boost limits. Is there anyway to check the solenoid valve to see if it works? My logs show that the waste gate cycle goes to about 50 I think. The IAM stays at 9, after I reset the ecu. I will post my log up after I refill my car with 93.

How do I check if the waste gate solenoid valve is working?
