Question 2.5 RS exhaust on 97 Legacy GT??

Hey guys......a friend of mine has a 97 Legacy GT and i think i remember reading somewhere that exhaust for the 2.5 RS will bolt up to the Legacy GT. Can anybody confirm this for me?? If so what year RS parts will work on his 97 Legacy GT. Any info will help. Any suggestions on an axle back for his car as well?? 2.5L NA. Thanks.
L.J.

not too sure about the length on those, but if the midpipe is the same length, the whole thing will fit just fine. the hangers might be an issue though, and you might need to have the flange at the cat cut off and rotated to make the impreza exhaust work on the legacy. that's what i had to go through to get the STi exhaust onto my car, plus the piping on the STi exhaust was about 4 inches too short at the cat, and about 5 inches too short at the tip if i remember correctly.

i don't know how much of a gain your stock exhaust will be for your friend though. a stock GD WRX exhaust has 2.25" piping in the mid, and i think 2.5" piping at the cannister, and they're a pretty good exhaust upgrade for an N/A car. the piping and hangers will need to be modified just like i had to do to get the STi exhaust onto my car though.

same goes for getting an STi exhaust on your friend's car, but the piping is bigger. either the STi exhaust or the WRX one is a solid choice for his car though, just depends on what kind of power gains he wants in the end.

the GT and RS exhaust are exactly the same. dont waste your time. but to answer your question, yes it will fit. both cars have the duel port 2.5l engine so the header will work and the axleback will fit if its sedan-to-sedan. you might need to have a custome mid-pipe made though.. but again, unless its aftermarket, dont waste your time/money.

The midpipe definitely needs to be extended, but that's absolute cake for an exhaust shop to do on the car. Everything else should bolt right down.

2.5RS midpipe is shorter than the stock GT midpipe. The wheelbase for the RS is shorter.

wagons require more work than sedans because of the longer bumpers.
