Question Best mods for '99 Outback?

Newbie question:

I'm interested in making some mods to my '99 Outback.

What are some of the best "bang for the buck" mods people have made?

I'm not going to be racing or rallying, just want to extend my driving pleasure with the car for a few more years.

Thanks!

Whitleline adj. swaybar 18mm-22mm: $180
Whiteline links for same: $75
Front strut tower brace: $180 or so
Ability to walk away from road hog SUVs on entrance ramps: priceless

NEways this is about all you can do or at least what is worth doing. Next step would be plus one tire upgrade. There is almost nothing left in a 70 tire anymore. A set of '01 Outback rims or other Sube 16" rims, mounted with 215/60/16 tires, will make a biiiig difference. I hope to do that to ours this summer.

Default Outback Mods

1. Get a K&N filter
2. check out Remarcable's http://www.remarcable.net/misc/legac...snorkusectomy/ website for an easy mod that helps out some

enjoy!!

Brendan,
Yeah, from what I've seen, this seems like a risk-free upgrade. What is the real-world improvement you experience? Is there an increase in noise?

Thanks,

Will

There's an increase in noise and a decrease in MPG.

I would also suggest a rear strut bar before a front one. I am getting all sorts of squeaks and rattles from the back.

Remarcable,

Ummm ... if there's more noise and fewer MPG, what's the rationale for the "upgrade" ... throttle response?

Thanks,

Will

Default Upgrade

Decrease in MPG - i was getting 21 in mixed driving, and it's stayed the same - i'm in AZ now (MD before) and our highways have 75mph speed limits alot of places - my cruising is about 85-90 and still i get ~21mpg

I have noticed better acceleration at highway speeds - nothing down low (not a car to drag race anyway!) but definitely helps on the highway

my next upgrade is an Unorthodox Racing underdrive pulley - Josh Colombo has done lots with his 91 Legacy and has the mods listed on his website: http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/subaru.html

great car, but it's a brick in the wind - mileage sucks but versatility and that AWD... yum yum yum
