Default Before and after characteristics of a 2.5 hybrid.

All things being equal...how does the 2.5l hybrid feel compared to the stock 2.0l?

Let say I just finished swapping a 2.5l shortblock into my WRX, and the only thing that I changed was the shortblock...everything else stayed the same. Stock TD04, stock manifolds, stock heads, stock cams...what would I notice upon my first drive around the block...what would I notice when I am driving around town in traffic, mountains, track...etc.

the stock turbo isnt too laggy so i dont think it will be as big of a difference as if you had done it on a car with a larger turbo. It will spool faster of course. I dunno how much more power you can expect but i would guess a noticeable ammount. As Ive been told by the domestic kids at school...Theres no replacement for displacement.

I really appreciate the attention, but I would LOVE to hear from some that have actually done the swap.

Make sure you get the hybrid custom tuned or you probably wont feel much but more low end torque. I raced a buddy of mine with the 2.5 hybrid using wrx heads, sti turbo, sti intercooler, tbe, utec and I pulled just as hard with my stage 2 2.0

I am running around with my hybrid with just the valet map for break in and I can tell you, it's a different animal. My heads had to be milled a bit plus I'm using the stock STI HG. My uppipe is also gutted and I have a Perrin y-pipe on there. Boost comes on about 500rpm sooner, and good torque is now available down low.

Thank you, that is a little closer to the kind of response that I was looking for.

I would like to get an idea of how the added displacement effects the characteristics, and driveablity of the car. Just curious really, but I am also asking because it will more than likely be the route that I take with my 02 when the time comes.

The mods that I have now that would stay would be my catless up-pipe and downpipe, exhaust, STI TMIC, Cobb AP.

I would probably upgrade the turbo when I do the swap, but I haven't decided what turbo I want yet.

^^what he said. Basically you have more torque down low for lugging around off boost. Plus it's not as peaky as the 2.0. It really makes the car tons more driveable and enjoyable.

02 with a hybrid here. A custom tune is a must. Here is my setup
STi SB
STi waterpump
cosworth oil pump
invidia catless up
invidia divorced down
apexi noir CBE
injen CAI (Came with the car when i bought it)

Everything else is pretty much stock.

And a custom tune from GST Motorsports.

I pretty much gained a bunch of torque. It was dynoed at about 225 pounds of torque. Top end and HP is the same, plus the extra HP with the stage 2 setup and tune. I would suggest upgrading your cams to get better top end out of it. But the STi block allows a bigger turbo.

I ain't no Guru, but shouldn't you be pushing more than 225wtq?

^^ Yes sir, the dyno reads pretty low compared to other dynos, so i could possibly be making way over 225wtq on others. But at least i know thats a solid number. She pulls hard off boost i can tell you that. I just need a 18g or 20g now because this TD04 ain't doin it.

I know huh. lol, well coming from the 2.0L... Yeah, I know a bigger turbo would definitely put down some good power. But after i pay this block off it will be suspension system, after that... tranny,... then a big turbo and meth injectors. This car is becoming a money pit, lol. I've even stopped record shopping to support my subie addiction, now all i need is a second job.
