Default Road debris vs fuel tank

Ok so this is a little story bout what happened to me last week on Peger road.
I was minding my own buisness just drivin home, I was using the 2 second rule not following the truck in front of me too closely. We were only doin about 40 mph when all of a sudden a piece of scrapmetal falls out of this dudes truck. There were cars in the next lane so I could not swerve to avoid the chunk of metal barreling down the road. I had a split second to think about what I should do and ended up takin the hit and went over the chunk of metal. Now my car is pretty low with Tein flexes so I thought for sure my v-limited lip would be destroyed. Nope it made it cleanly under the lip but to my horror it somehow got wedged under the fuel tank and put a realy nice sized hole in it. After I heard and felt the impact I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw a puddle of wetness following my car. I Immediatly pulled into a side street, got out and looked under the car. What did I see? Fuel GUSHING not trickling or dripping but gushing out of the tank. I thought for sure the car would shortly start on fire because the hole that the fuel was coming out was about 1 inch from the exhaust pipe. So I said a few choice words to myself and called the fire dept. I sat on a curb about 20 feet away just waiting for my car to catch fire and burn to the ground. To my suprise it did not catch fire. Once the fire dept got there they waited for all the gas to drain out of the hole (I had filled the tank that day), cleaned up the gas, and got me a tow. The aftermath is my insurance is paying for the damage but say its an at fault accident. No I did not get the liscense plate # of the other dude. I should have but things happened so fast it wasnt my primary concern. Well thats all I can say about my little incident, I will be driving even more cautiously from now on. Peace

This is sad. I hate plastic fuel tanks. I am all for a fuel cell that fits in the spare tire compartment. My GF's corolla now has a small fuel leak because of a speed bump in the carrs minnesota parkiong lot. I called DOT, and apparantly there is no regulation for height-to-width ratio of a private parking lot speed bump. Now I have to drop a fuel tank and plastic-weld it because some douchebage put too much asphalt on a speed bump. I hate my life.
