Default newb wrx owner, with newb like questions.

hey guys, just got my new to me 02 WRX this weekend. I've been having a ton of fun so far. Its black/blue (whats the name of this color?), and has a cobb catted DP, Samco hoses, perrin shifter, tein springs and rotas. I already yanked the silencer out of the intake Next mods will be boost gauge and installing my Raptor shiftlight from one of my previous cars.

so on to the noob questions. I know cobb is a good brand, and samco. I don't know much about perrin or tein. Are they good stuff? I'm new to the import world.

I was thinking of a catback and a tune to compliment the DP, what kind of HP over stock am I looking at (a rough guesstimate is fine). Will keeping the stock cat back hurt alot? I do like it quiet, and this car is primarily a commuter. Also is this the point of diminishing returns, or am I leaving easy hp on the table with other mods?

also the shifter. It feels weird, and not real precise or solid... especially first gear. Normal or should I investigate? Are they mounted directly on the trans in a subaru?

Thanks guys, I'm so glad to have the car. Its the only compact car that I had any interest in, and I'm glad I stuck it out and got one. Its freakin hard to find a clean WRX that wasn't beat on and I about gave up and just got a beater. I'll post pics when I can.

1. Perrin and Tein are respected. You have some good mods. You can get an Accessport V1 for like $300, flash to stage 2 and have like a 60 hp/tq gain. Around 285HP/285TQ according to Cobb. Very close to a stock STI in a straight line.

2. Get a catback only if you want noise or the look. I ran stage 2 with only a downpipe on my 02 and it was just great. I eventually got a cheap catback because I wanted noise...didn't notice a difference in power.

3. Welcome to the WRX transmission. Luckily it's fixable. I suggest a Kartboy short shifter and front/rear bushings.

4. Enjoy your car and make sure to use the NASIOC archives as an encyclopedia. The search function on here is excellent.

You have an awesome car!!!

cool, thanks for the advice. I'll definately look into the bushings and see if that cleans it up. I have been lurking on nasioc for about a month trying to figure out what to avoid while looking for a WRX. Guess I need to update the profile now that I actually have one

Sorry didn't pay attention, you already have a nice short shifter! Definitely get the bushings -- they're a decently easy install if you have a good write-up.

Cars pretty basic as you can see. Anyone know the official name of this color?

also anyone one know of a good reference source for info on these cars? Like what changed year to year, what the WRX or RS packed included etc.
