Default Tribeca Sales Not Enough To Stop Subaro Sales Dropping 7%

Subaru of America, Inc. today reported August sales of 16,573 total units. Sales of the redesigned 2008 Subaru Tribeca were up 33 percent from the same month last year.

“We are pleased to see sales of the redesigned 2008 Subaru Tribeca up one-third over last year,” said Tim Colbeck, vice president of sales, Subaru of America, Inc. “With more style, more power and enhanced fuel efficiency, our customers are finding the new Tribeca a tremendous value in the marketplace.”

Subaru Tribeca sales posted 1,835 units in August. Subaru Legacy recorded 6,432 unit sales, while the Outback accounted for 4,448 units of that line for the month. Subaru Forester recorded an August total of 3,902 units, while the Subaru Impreza line posted 4,393 units for the month. The discontinued Subaru Baja also recorded 11 units in August.

My store was ~50% off from last year so a 7% decline overall isn't that bad really. All the local stores in my autogroup (toyota/lexus/scion/kia/nissan/infiniti/acura) were whining about how slow August was

First impression is very important. If you don't get it right the first time, you have pretty much shot yourself in the foot. If v1.0 was in the current form, they probably would have sold reasonably well

Very impressive Impreza results... nearly the sales leader! Trailing only Outback, and by just 55 units! Outback & Forester are the usual leaders.

Tribeca sales aren't bad. I predict sometime in the next few months Tribeca will outsell Legacy. Legacy outsold Tribeca by just 149 units in August. Despite great reviews, Legacy just isn't selling like it should, and even though they might introduce a performance model to maintain interest, I can't see Legacy volume really climbing 'til the redesigned model comes out.

Tribeca sales, and really interest in that model, has gone way, way up from the 07 models.

Our store did pretty well last month actually. Last couple of months have been pretty good here.

Still havent seen an 08 Impreza sell yet

Thats because the Tribeca no longer resembles a Tuscan Raider from the original Star Wars.

Just my 2cents

I've seen 4 new 2008 WRXs and several 2008 Impreza 2.5is sell since they arrived at my area Subaru dearler recently. They seem to move faster than the '07 Impreza line.

There are not enough Imprezas coming off the boats to fill dealer orders. And 07 inventory levels are obliterated since Fuji skipped 2 months of production on the 07 before the 08 came out. It may take 2-3 months before there are enough Imprezas to keep up with demand.

I love that the Baja is still being sold. That's great......

One more thing. I've never understood why Subaru made the Tribeca. Between it and that Forester there's not much difference. Don't get me wrong, I understand there are differences....but when you look at it from the perspective of a ordinary buyer it seems sort of strange to have both.

The Tribeca being much larger, better equipped, and having seating for 7 isn't much of a difference to you?

Are you kidding???

The Forester is WAY too small for families... Thats why you see young couples or retired folks driving them, not families. The Tribeca fit the family need... With 7 seats, much larger cargo capacity, much larger towing capacity, and just a bigger car.

Its a HUGE step from a Forester to a Tribeca.

Theres still about a dozen 07 Imprezas, and about 20 08 Imprezas now on the lot i'm talking about... The 07's are going quicker, but the 08's havent even moved and its been like a few weeks now.

When the 08 Legacys showed up, a few sold within the first couple weeks... The 08 Tribecas were going even quicker than that... But the Imprezas, just not seeing anything here.

Default impreza sale

Since 2008 impreza is now made for ordinary buyers it wouldn't harm if they make it 2WD. Just to sell it cheaper. Price is now selling point. I guess 75% of old impreza funs or more will not buy it.
In Europe only diesel can help them as everything diesel sells good.

My neighbor bought a new 2008 Tribeca because of the new look. I also saw a new 2008 WRX (cream or white) in their driveway the other morning. But I have not seen it since, maybe it was a friend. So far in driving I have seen a few new Tribecas, but only that one new WRX.

I have two kids and my WRX wagon works fine for now, but I am thinking about the new Tribeca or some other SUV in the future.

Nice Tuscan raider pic!!

From certain angles, the old Tribby looks pretty good, but yeah, a little too much for most family folk looking for an SUV. I really, really like the new one, and glad it seems to be selling much better. It's pretty much between a Tribeca and a Legacy for us.

I'm sorry for your kids who have to squze into the back seats of WRX. I've a WRX wagon and Tribeca. I wouldn't let them suffer in a long road trip on a WRX. Tribeca is much nicer to them. If your kids are still in car seats, that may be fine. But kids grow up quickly you know.

^^My kids are 2 and 4 so the WRX will be gone long before they run out of legroom. And the 08 has more legroom so the solution is already available.

Not at all; we can take 2 cars if we need to. I'm not driving a minivan/SUV everywhere just for those rare times I might want to carry more than 5 people in 1 vehicle.
