Default ej257 shortblock swap question...

ok so i have to ahve my shortblock replaced... and i can get the 2.5 sti block for the same price as the stock 2.0 block...

my question is... will i have to be re-tuned if i go with the 2.5 liter?

I would say def.

What else needs to be swapped with going from a 2.0 bottom end to a 2.5 as I am in the same boat as you.

2.0 heads can be used.
What about ecu or other sensors or anything?

Yes, you will need to get a custom tune since your ECU is designed for the 2.0L. I suggest going with the STi Head Gaskets and deal with the high compression ratio through tuning.

I would also suggest upgrading to a higher cam duration as the stock WRX cams greatly effect the top end.

tune a 2.5 with 2.0 heads with tmic to 333 whp & 342 ftlbs ~21 psi
re tune after fmic & aquamist 2d and got 383 whp & 398 ftlbs ~21 psi
02 wrx with utec.

meh im just gonna replace my 2.0 with a 2.0... i know its boring but... its what i can afford...

seriously while you have the chance go with the 2.5!! totally different animal... it will transform your car. if all the other costs are the same (block, gaskets, etc) then its a no brainer. your only extra expense is a retune... thats a bargain and a half

For honestly a few dollars more you can have one hell of a vehicle. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm def going for a 2.5 block

well i found a 2.0 block for 1k cheaper thjan the shop wants to sell me the 2.5... so to me a poor college student... its a no brainer...

2.5 blcok $1800
