ok so i have to ahve my shortblock replaced... and i can get the 2.5 sti block for the same price as the stock 2.0 block...
my question is... will i have to be re-tuned if i go with the 2.5 liter?

I would say def.
What else needs to be swapped with going from a 2.0 bottom end to a 2.5 as I am in the same boat as you. 2.0 heads can be used. What about ecu or other sensors or anything? |

tune a 2.5 with 2.0 heads with tmic to 333 whp & 342 ftlbs ~21 psi
re tune after fmic & aquamist 2d and got 383 whp & 398 ftlbs ~21 psi 02 wrx with utec. |

seriously while you have the chance go with the 2.5!! totally different animal... it will transform your car. if all the other costs are the same (block, gaskets, etc) then its a no brainer. your only extra expense is a retune... thats a bargain and a half

well i found a 2.0 block for 1k cheaper thjan the shop wants to sell me the 2.5... so to me a poor college student... its a no brainer...
