Default 06 WRX with VF39 question

Ok so i'm currently running a VF 39 swap, Perrin TMIC, walboro fuel pump and the Cobb vf39 tune for the 06 wrx. No Pro Tune yet, but soon. My question is that, can my car keep up with Stock STI's and maybe even Stage 2 Flashed STI's.

The cobb website rates the power output of the VF39 tune as:
Power Output: 362 HP (+57%) / 334 lb-ft (+42%).
But i'm sure this is at the crank and not at the wheels.

With your set-up you should be around 280whp and close to 300ftlb... Should beat STis without breaking a sweat, same with Stage 2's. BUT! Next time search a bit, so you can figure out where exactly to ask your ?'s or else your going to get ripped apart on here.

Did you buy bigger injectors? That's a lot of power man, don't kill yourself.

Yes...you shouldn't have a problem beating an STi. I've got the same set up with a protune and I don't have a problem.

Also, you should have posted this in the 2.5 forum

You should be able to out accelerate a stock STi fairly easily. A stage 2 one would give you a run for your money though... especially a tuned one.

Stock Sti, yes. A tuned stage 2 Sti ??? hard to say...

Go to a dragstrip get a few runs in, you should be low 13's or high 12's...

I have a 06 WRX with vf-39, a large TMIC with a TBE and a custom tune by 06rexwagon. I leave stock STi's in the dust and stage 2 STi's loose to me by about 1 - 2 cars. It's our gear ratio's that really help us.

Even if this is crank you will do more than keep up with the STi.
Remember, the 300 whp & torque figure quoted for the STi is crank as well.
But trust me you can easily get 280 whp and torque from the 39 at a mere 20 psi or even less with the correct mods. I always encourage a thermal wrap, and water sprayer for the TMIC.
Mid to high 12 will be about what you will get for track times as well.

I just got tuned and went to the track last week. I dyno'd at 280hp/330tq @18psi on 93 octane.
Mods: STi TMIC, Injen CAI, Gruppe-S lightweight pulley, Gruppe-S headers and catless TBE (SPT),VF-39 turbo.

I just ran a 13.15. One of the other guys that was there who has a stage 2 STi from my club ran a 12.99. So as you can see it is a pretty close race and could go either way.

Those #'s sound just about right. Try using a thermal wrap and a water sprayer on the TMIC and it will drop you time on the strip.

haha. I would need to run my race gas map to beat some of these VF39 swapped WRX's. If not they will be breathing down my neck.

After tuned many many STI's and 06 or 07 WRX with the VF39 swap... I have to give the nod to the STI. They simply make more power. Its close but it will come down to the driver. The 06 or 07 WRX wont take the AVCS cam timing like the STI will and as a result of both are tuned properly the STI makes more power.

My thinking is that even if the STI does make more power, even if it made 20 more whp, the fact that the wrx tr is like 250 lbs. lighter and the different gearing should make it comparable if not faster...

Or am I overestimating the importance of weight??

Isn't there a company on here that has PROVEN the ej257 makes less power than the ej255 with the same mods on an engine dyno?

I would agree. On thing is that the STi was built for more power. It is the top performer and the big brother of the 2 and is capable of doing more and handling more power as well.
If the WRX does not have a aftermarket suspension set up, or the STi box, it will not outperform the STi on the strip or on the track even if it has a bit more horses (10 w/horses) than the STi.
The STi is the top performer especially if it well tuned.
2 of my friends have Subaru's. One has an STi and one has a WRX. The WRX has the VF22 and the STi has the VF39. The STi is tuned at 21 psi and the WRX at 22. The WRX has a hard time with the STi on the strip.
