Do you have the stock BPV or an aftermarket one? I can barely hear my stock BPV, so if you are running an aftermarket one sell it and put a stock one on.

But yes I would run a BPV on the car, without it you can run into compressor surge problems which can shorten the life of your turbo.

What is "your setup?"

9/10 the stock BPV is completely adequate. Unless you're running an assload of boost, any aftermarket BOV is purely for sound. If you "hate the rice sound," put the stock BPV back on.

The stock BPV holds 18 PSI Safely with no leaks. @20PSI it starts to leak. There is no reason to run a BOV just keep the BPV on.

Only if you use synthetic boost fluid.

You do need some form of BPV or BOV. The turbo is always creating some boost, it's just a matter of how much and where it goes. Right as you shift, the turbo will still be producing a lot of boost, but the motor will not be using it. The BOV/BPV acts as a vent to allow this unused pressure to either get vented or recirculated.

You could probably find a BOV that does not make as much noise. I dont know if you would need a retune though (but it sounds like you are doing that anyway). A DIY option may be to try to muffle it. What specific model is it? I might be able to think of something...

Regarding using the stock BPV...is that difficult to do without the stock IC because of the mounting flange? I have not really looked at it in a while so I don't know if it can be partially taken apart of if there are adapters.

Since you are running a rotated mount turbo, are you running a blow through MAF setup? A picture of your setup, may help us offer advice...

I always thought the HKS BOV was a bit on the annoying side myself, but I am a cranky old man...

Turbo XS makes an adapter that allows you to mount it to a 3/4" or 1" (I forget which size) tube. I am running an STi v5 BPV (looks just like stock) on my swap even with the FMIC.

no u dont have to run a BOV on a car at all, regardless of what people say. i have been in cars that put out abput 25psi that dont run bovs because they dont like the lag with the on off throttle in while racing, but i would not recommend it. it definatly takes the life off of ur turbo center cartridge especially ur ball bearing 30r. u can buy an adapter for ur kit and run the stock bypass valve. but with the turbo u are running make sure to crush the top so that it holds atleast 20-21psi. actually pm me i have the parts to make the turboxs bov into a 100% recirc. lemme know if u want it.

APS 50/50 is the way to go. You can set it to only purge at full boost, and rec the rest of the time.

You don't need no stinkin BOV!! The only way I'd say that you can live without some sort of BOV or BPV is if you had an automatic trans. Hell, my stock turbo on my GN held up for 120K miles without one. I have to say a 50/50 is the way to go in your case.
