Question Subaru "Security Upgrade" info?

I recently rented a 2003 Outback and loved the fact that it beeped and the markers flashed when I locked/unlocked the doors. This is much better than my 2000 Legacy GT that makes an exremely loud chirping honk when I lock the doors (if one is open) and other than that, has no other indication. I also assume this Outback had some kind of alarm system...

Can anyone educate me on this system:

1. Is it worth the $125 price to upgrade? (quoted from subaruparts.com)
2. Would this even work on my Legacy GT?
3. Is there an actual alarm or just beeps and flashing lights?
4. Would the dealer have to install it?

thanks -- Ward

Well,

The 2000 GT wagon ( I had one) does not have the microwave sounding chirp that the 03 has - There was a keyless entry upgrade for 03.

On my 00 I bought the Alarm Upgrade, and it allowed me to get the parking lights to blink with the lock/unlock, you can still turn off the annoying honk on yours.

I still have the Alarm box, motion sensor - if you like we can make a deal!!
