Those are nice. You should paint them to match the car. Let's see some pics when you do that.

Do they make this conversion for the 2000 Legacy? I have an H1 HID kit on my Legacy, and would like projector-type lenses, with a sharper cut-off -- the Morretes look like they would do the trick.
By the way, I love the output of the HID kit - it is comparable to Acura lights, but even a little more violet/white. I got them from http://www.hids4less.com. Stage II Kit. I love pulling up next to an M5 or an Audi and having their HIDs look yellow on the pavement next to mine... ![]() |

2000GTWagon,
I do the exact same thing in my Golf. My lights are brighter than those on MB's and Audi's. I enjoy the look on the drivers' faces when they see a cheapo VW with better lights than their $$$$ cars. I'm hoping to do the same thing with my Legacy when I buy a pair of Morettes. DeeBee |

Here's a couple exciting pics of my Legacy, too! I'm leaving them black like HIHO did, I really like how they look that way. They continue the line of black across the front made by the grill and the Hella's and whatnot.
This is a pic of the high and low beams. (Hella's aren't even on... they're bright!!!) HERE'S A PHOTOSHOP I MADE... REMOVED THE LICENCE PLATE AND ADDED A MESH GRILL (BLACK TO MATCH). |

JSiwek - How did you mount those Hellas? Are they attached to the grill? I would like to add driving lights, but I am unsure where to mount them on my 2000 legacy...
Any what type are the Amber fogs? thanks |

Haha, good questions.
Um, the Hella's I mounted myself with a little elbow grease. I got four 8" long by 1" wide by maybe 1/4" thick aluminum bars like you would mount on a door with pre-drilled holes in them... kinda hard to desribe what they are... and I doubled them up one on top of the other. At the end I widened up one of the pre-drilled holes and that is what I clamped the Hella bolt to. Now, I took off my grill and (for each light) drilled one hole through the top plastic of the bumper behind where the grill actually sits on it, through the actual metal bumper/chassis deal, and another hole farther back towards the radiator, again through the chassis. I put a bolt through the bars, through the holes, and bolted them to the chassis in two places for each light bar. It's fairly solid!!!!!! hahahaha. Kinda hard to explain... if you would like pictures just let me know, I'd be glad to snap a few and e-mail them to you. Those little round lights are actually driving lights. They're very focused and white in color, not amber. I got them for $3.99 at a hardware store hehe. surprisingly bright though! The Hella's, by the way, are the Eurobeam pattern, which is a focused driving beam which, according to Hella, will put light on something up to 2500 feet away. Jeremy Siwek JSiwek@scu.edu lucky day, I found a couple pics that kinda show it ![]() Last edited by JSiwek; 04-07-2002 at 03:14 AM. |

I have some questions for HIHO et. al.
The projector assembly is seperate from the bulb correct? Meaning you can open the projector assembly to replace the bulb, you dont replace the entire assembly? Do you guys have any I dea the cost of replacing the projector assembly if you had to? If it got hit by a rock, etc? Thanks guys Great info |

Subysouth,
The Morette projectors are seperate from the bulbs, so yes, you can replace just the bulbs (or add HIDs). I don't think anyone found the cost to replace the projectors alone, but I'm not sure. Hope this helps. Jacob |

Jinx worked
On a drive from my house here in Spokane, WA up to Victoria, BC my right (or the car's right actually --passenger side--) low beam lens got cracked all the way across. I'm just assuming it got hit by a good sized rock while on the highway. I even had that 3M clear tint stuff on it that's supposed to protected lenses from getting cracked. Luckily it doesn't effect the beam whatsoever, but I'm still pretty bummed out about it. I haven't figured out the cost of replacing the one reflector assembly yet, or even how difficult it would be to get one ordered. Hopefully it's a fairly standard Hella assembly and not a one-off made just for the Morettes. If anyone finds out a place to get them and a price on them, please please post it here and/or shoot me an e-mail! I'm completely broke (which is why I haven't looked into it yet, and almost don't want to), but I would really like to know. Hopefully I'm the only one who will get the jinx. Thanks a lot subysouth j/kJeremy Siwek JSiwek@scu.edu |

Doesnt 3M have a warranty program on that film. As in if youre using it and the light gets broken ........ I hope so. Here is a link another member posted to some Hella projector assemblies:
http://www.susquehanna.com/susq/hella/90mm.htm Dont know about the prices but it might give you a good baseline. There was another link in this thread but it doesn't seem to be working. subysouth |

I made that jump about a year and half ago in the general forum. We were talking about whta Legacys looked similar too. If you look at the new impalas and the 2000+ Legacy sedans there is more than a passing resemblance in the overall massing, roof pillars etc. I hope its just a coincidence.
subysouth edit: and Jsiwek those projector assemblies inyour Morettes look dead on like Hellas. Maybe you could measure them and see if they are 90mm. There are prices posted for the assemblies on the website I linked above. $54 USD each. Last edited by subysouth; 08-14-2002 at 10:09 AM. |

I think 2001LegactGT is just jealous that he can't get better lights for his car. The stock headlights just sucked horribly.
sovereignmk1 -- actually I never have been harassed by the police about the Hella's. Not in Washington or even in California, where I heard they were really strict about it. I hardly ever have the covers on; and yes, it is illegal within any city limits to have them off... daytime or nightime. So... maybe they just don't care that much, or don't even know. I've been in Spokane all summer, mostly up on the south hill and driving back and forth between here and Hayden where we have a small lake cabin. I go to school in California so I'm down there for the whole winter. Actually kind of sad since I LOVE driving in the snow. But yes, that absolutely was my car at Northtown. Cobb Tuning sticker on the rear skirt and Cobb licence frame as well as that huge wakeboarder decal on my rear windshield And if anything, my car doesn't look like an Impala, the Impala looks like mine. Ours were first!!! ;-) It's just because the new Impala's have black around their headlights and they stand out just like the Morettes on our Legacy's. Anyhooo, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Jeremy |

Found the right ones (I think.... but I haven't verfied yet by looking at the ID number on the ones on my car) at www.rallylights.com Check out this link for their stock of Hella headlights and E-code projector beams and whatnot http://www.susquehanna.com/susq/hella/headlamp.htm .
Part number 71156. Of course, now that I'm reading it I'm thinking that the Morette projectors (which ARE Hellas--it's stamped on the lenses) are not 5.75" like that part number's lenses. Regardless, I'm sure a place like rallylights.com could order the correct ones, and they're probably about the same price. This is a great site for any headlight stuff though. They've got lots of bulbs and tons of random driving and fog lights at pretty good prices. Jeremy |

From what the Washington State Patrol told me. You have to cover lights above your bumper, and are allowed an extra uncovered set of lights, besides your main headlights, below (or equal in height to) your bumper. Now on my truck I have two sets of uncovered lights (fogs and driving) and I've never gotten a ticket. I figure they can give you a ticket if you're running more than one set of extra lights at once.

haha oh yes you have guessed exactly. I am so incredibly jealous of your older cars and your fancy lights. I have never had a problem with my lights or have the desire to change them.
Id take the looks of a 2000+ over any other Legacy anyday |
