Default Turbo sound different from VF39 and stock wrx

I have a 2006 wrx with the VF39 swap. Just wondering for other people who have done this swap if you noticed that the TD04 has a louder higher pitch turbo whine, while the VF39 is rather more subtle, but has that "Ill eat your kid" type sound .

If you have noticed it does anyone know why?
I'm running a 3inch catless DP and was so accustomed to the whine of the TD04.

Can I tell you, with the 3'' exhaust, and the rumble of the Boxer, how the hell are you hearing the turbo spool???

Just because the exhaust is 3" and it has the boxer rumble doesn't mean it has to be loud. Greddy Evo2 exhaust FTW.

Well put it this why, I am not listening out for the rumble. Hearing the spool is irrelevant when you can listen to the rumble, whether loud or not.

Yeah, right now I have a stage 2 wrx with a catless downpipe. You can definately hear that high pitch swirling from the turbo. I have the VF39/Fuel Pump sitting in my room, I'm just waiting on my STI top mount. I can't wait for the "I eat babies" sound.

Yeah the TD04, and yes I know its a different turbo. But the sound is totally different. Going through neihborhoods at night with a TBE on the TD04 is like someone whistling through a Megaphone inside your egine bay. THe first time I drove my car after the VF39 swap and I heard that sound I thought I was on top of the world.......Then wrxwagon253 with his FP Green blew me out the water from a "spirited drive from a rolling start".

Yeah but I was wondering if the internals of the turbo or size would be the reason why the different sound. I'm a noob to turbos so I originally they would sound the same somewhat.

Even if you cant hear it in the car, have someone drive your car towards you on a quiet road, accelerating a little bit, while you stand off to the side ahead of them.

Its louder outside the car from the side/front than from inside the car.

stock 06 turbo is really loud with catless stage 2. now in regards to the exhaust it is not that loud, but like treble and bass it sticks out very clearly.

I am going with a VF34 when I get back from Kuwait. I will look for the change to see how different it is.
