Default Another 10sec MZM car this week

We would like to congratulate both Charles Pogue (10.5@134mph) and Derek Eastty (10.7@134mph) on both of their 10 second passes made this week with their 04 STi’s. Derek’s just happened to be last night at San Antonio Raceway when doing two test runs. His car in particular is not a drag car; its platform is truly designed for time attack / open road racing, nor is Charles being a 100% streetcar with full street trim (Leather Seats, Navigation, Stereo System, ect). However, with 540+ WHP who can resist testing them out on the drag strip a couple of times. Both are equipped with Cosworth long block’s, similar but different APS turbo setups and most importantly are built & tuned by MZM.

Dereks Track Video from last night

Nice!

I was looking at the video and something caught my attention...

What kind of gears is this car using?
Tires?
Or are you guys launching in second?

The reason I ask is because I usually shift into 5th right around the 1/8th of a mile. From the looks of it... it bogs a little even with the anti lag and you go pass the 60ft in that first gear.

So did you guys launch in second... shift into fifth a little bit before the 1/8th and then shift to 6th right at the end?

Just wondering. Anyway this car is awesome! That's the first DR65 equip car that I've seen... that actually performs! Congrats.

The transimmsion is stock except for the stock output shaft has been cryo treated, otherwise everything else is 100% stock.

Tires?
apx 3/4" taller than standerd 18" street tires Toyo rAAA's DOT Road Race Tires

No, but we probably have apx 500~1000 RPMS more than you do on the shifts if your car is still on the stock motor.

Regarding the bog, a bit YES with only a bit of wheel spin, as the launch controls was tuned so the car wouldn't overpower the track on launch yeilding the 1.56 60ft.

No first gear....You have me curious has anyone in PR done this, if so did they did not break there second gear? never tried it but sure would be interesting.

With respect to this particular DR65 set-up it is equipped with a 1.06 turbine housing.

Derek and Mo congratulation I wish I was still in Texas and would prob be there that night.

Again when you combine well engineered parts (Cosworth + APS), bad ass build & tuning from MZM, and an owner that has good taste and knows how to drive (Derek); you end up with awesome results.

Cheers,

R

Got it! I run bigger tires as well (almost 26") and spin mine to 7,500 rpm. But I still have to shift to second before the 60' feet and shift to 5th around the 1/8th. You must be spinning it pretty high!

Mine leaves a little hotter... different method I guess... in the end to get to the same conclusion!

Yes and if you pull it off (it doesn't bog) it works. But as everyone expect... is extremely abusive. I think there an old video somewhere (The stock block record 10.3@137 was achieved launching in second).

Bigger hot side FTW!

BTW I want to reiterate that the car is awesome! Great job. I just had that one question.
