Just wondering if I'm crazy. Are there major differences between my BP's headlights and my MY2000 impreza's?
I've never even thought about the way the headlights on my impreza where aimed. At night I'd turn them on and I could see the road. Simple I was very surprised when I first drove my Legacy at night. The lights seem very directional and I can see a distinct "line" in the horizon where my headlights are shinning. I find that very disturbing and I need to use my high beams way too often since i find my headlights don't light up the road far enough. Anyone else with headlight issues? Thanks

The Legacy's lights probably look like it's putting that line because it doesn't scatter the light as much as your older impreza's headlight design, at the same time putting more light into the area that it's shining - result is the darker area has more contrast to the lit area that has more light being put on it. |

I really like the headlights on my BP. The cutoff is pronounced, but it seems to me that it's in just the right place to light the road without bothering anyone else (same thing rougeben just described). I'm sure it lights the road more than my other car, it seems dim by comparison.
I wonder if yours are just aimed a little too low. |

Try aiming them up a little. If you start getting flashed, aim them back down. I think you'll find projector performance to be superior once you get it aimed properly.

Thanks for the info. I'm definitely going to try to aim them just a bit higher. Currently the "line" is just below where I look while driving and it's driving me crazy... Even though your responses have proved that I'm not

That ain't right, I bet they're aimed wrong...
I never see the cutoff line unless I'm driving towards a wall (parking, for example), or on a section of freeway that has a barrier. Maybe a steep/abrupt hill would also reveal it, but I've never noticed that. Go park parallel to a wall, or drive parallel to a barrier, and look where the cutoff line is. Mine runs about parallel to the ground (I'll try to remember to look more closely if I drive tonight). Or just skip that step and start tweaking them as Wiscon_Mark suggested. |
