I just got done putting one in mine. There are only a few things you should need to concern yourself with:

1. Does a MY98 use a hotwire MAF sensor? Forgot if that year was speed density or not. If it does have a MAF you'll be getting rid of it (or at least not using it) and be mounting a MAP sensor instead. I went with a 3 bar but realized I'm never going to run more than 1 bar of boost (~15psi) so I'm left with less fine tuning on the load bars in the maps. If you're not going to exceed 15psi then get a 2 bar MAP sensor. Ask Haltech for the part # or get it from them when you order yours. If your car does have a MAP then I'm not sure if the Haltech will take its signal or not; it uses GM ones.

2. You need to mount a GM air temp sensor somewhere. I had a bung welded on my intercooler and threaded it on there. You could remove your manifold and tap that for the temp sensor if you really wanted to but it's a lot more work. Mine kinda balances out the look of the BOV on the opposite side of the intercooler

3. The coolant temp sensor is a pain. It's a 3/8NPT GM sensor going into a 12mm hole that the stock coolant sensor is filling. Hopefully the MY98 has a temp sender right next to the coolant sensor that provides the signal to the stock temp gauge on the dash so you won't lose that. Try finding a 3/8NPT to 12x1.5mm thread adapter. We had to make our own. You could tap the hole larger for the GM sensor right into your coolant line but takes a bit more work.

What's the rest of your set-up? I'll try to answer any other questions you've got while this is fresh in my mind.

I've always pushed for aftermarket engine management. If you really want to be serious about keeping that car running then you should get a new ECU. I had a J&S, ITC, and AFC running on my car earlier and it wreaked havoc on the MAF sensor. Likely you won't have that much trouble with yours since it isn't a hot-film MAF. Also the cost of the three aftermarket components I mentioned equal the cost of a Haltech. Since you already have the AFC then it's less of an issue. But you also have to consider the installation on these items as well. The J&S, ITC, and AFC are relatively easy to wire and pretty simple to tune. The Haltech takes a lot more knowledge to install and tune, but is a far better product in the end because of it. The Vishnu TEC-II kit is easier to install than the Haltech but a bit more pricey ($2500 as opposed to $1300). Each ECU has their pros and cons and I don't have the time to get into that now

As for a FMIC you must have some money to blow. Those are a bit more pricey and a lot more difficult to install. And unless you plan on running a lot of boost (like 15psi or better) then it isn't much better than a TMIC. You also have to protect FMICs with some sort of mesh since they're susceptable to high-velocity road debris.

I think it sounds like you're serious about this modification, what with the FMIC and the future engine overhaul. I still say get real aftermarket engine management in the form of a Haltech or a Vishnu TEC-II kit.
