Question Custom streams or podcasts, satellite radio?

Just searched 9 pages but nothing too relevant, although perhaps this?
http://blog.wired.com/music/2007/03/...d_instr_1.html

I'm wondering if there is a satellite radio option/provider out there that lets me program in .XML streams for podcasts or live radio from particular websites, that aren't tied into a contract with major providers (Sirius/XM). Example:

WRC podcast http://www.wrc.com/page/Podcast/0,,10111,00.html
Lamrim podcast http://www.lamrim.com/index2.html

Wouldn't it be cool if your sat. radio could download or stream a playlist of podcasts in your car? Is this available yet? There's nothing on Sirius that interests me.

*EDIT* I know I could just download podcasts onto an MP3 player and plug it in, but it is much more convenient for the onboard radio to stream it while I'm driving.

There isn't one. Only two companies do sat. radio....Sirius/XM due to the MASSIVE cost of putting up multiple satellites, so no, there is no other option. You could do a CarPC where you have a mobile internet connection and that way you could run your feeds, but that's it.

WELL the rumour mill is a churnin' that XM is folding & Sirius is gonna snatch up the whole deal... The only think XM has is MLB & Stern... in my opininion.

I've had both, XM & Sirius & both for several months side by side to compare. I have Sirus becuase Playboy moved & I liked the music variety better. I think XM has a more "pure" mix to their broadcast from a musivcal point of view. So its a toss up.

WRC would be awesome live/stream or reboradcast streaming.

Sirius's new Steletto portable does live/real time broadcast of all Sirius stations.

Negative with XM having Stern there. Stern specifically refused to go with XM as Clear Channel has a partnership with them. XM has O&A, which do nothing but make fun of Stern

XM isn't folding...they just are losing subscribers who are moving over to Sirius...the merger is more of the fact that at this point neither company is in the black yet and won't be able to compete against each other AND regular radio. The merger would make one single company that will have a chance of surviving and supposedly lower the monthy fees to bring in even more people. Also, the merger will SUPPOSEDLY allow an ala carte style selection of channels from both companies, and many doubled up channels from both companies would disappear.

Personally, I hope the merger falls through. Sirius is by far the better quality company (better music selection, better bitrate...still sucks though, Stern and BTLS, and a better business mentality) and I'd hate for many of my beloved channels to go the way of the dodo so some crap channel from XM can survive.

You said everything I was going to. Right on!!

I have also had both and am a Sirius subscriber. I much prefer it for the same reasons you outlined.

Great minds think alike

I bought Sirius for my old car from Tweeter before they even had a SKU for it in their systems Now I have four accounts and might be adding another one to boot. It's amazing how the channel selection is superior over XM by the level it is. It's also what??? Double the bitrate for the channels. It's still super ****ty even compared to standard FM, but the quantity of channels, and quality of music selections plus Howard and BTLS will keep me a subscriber until they fold...hopefully never

:hh: duh.. I knew that.. I was thinking of Opie & Anthony-Idiot Radio...

I switched with little resistence.. Sirus just offers more... I wish they would get rolling on motorsports besides freakin-nascar... I mean.. for the love of Pete! we lost Speed-Vision to now "Nascar-TV"...

Where's a WRC nut to find broadcasts except @ 2am?

You can't even find it at 2 am anymore

From what I read a few months ago Speed became the Nascar Channel because Fox couldn't justify creating another sports based channel. So they just completely redid the entire lineup of Speed to make their Nascar channel without having to really spend any extra money.
