Question Race Club interested in SCCA/Autocross

My friend and i are thinking of starting a race club in orlando. It hopefully would concist of some thirty+ members who would be racing at the local SCCA/Autocross events. I am wondering if SCCA/Autocross would appreciate something like this, or would they not be able to handle a crowd of this size and experience levels varying from novice to advanced. I have no experience in autocross event or the politics surrounding, and am just looking for general opinion.

What is this club going to do at the auto-x? If all you're going to do is compete in the event, then the SCCA organizers don't even need to know you're there. You and your club buddies will be just like everyone else there, except you'll all have your cars parked next to each other. You and your buddies just show up and run, you can hang out together between runs and make fun of each other, and when the event is over you leave.

So what's the question?

Philly region events regularly have over 120+ cars at summer series events, and I hear that the Regions on the west coast have upwards of 200+ cars. 30 shouldn't be a problem... and the SCCA is used to having beginners and experienced people in the mix... thats what they are all about.

We have a huge crowd [~8 - we're in the South what do expect] of Subies down here in central FL that do autocross with the local clubs (SCCA, Miata, etc). I wouldn't call it a car club but we do keep each other informed of upcoming events in the South East forum. I don't think we need a club within a club within a club (*insert club name here*/I-club/SCCA) but that's my opinion. But helping each other out at the events is a good thing and is done. All you have to do is ask. Come over to the SE Forum and check us out.

PS. We have an event coming up in 2 weeks.

Pretty much all the club would be doing while at the autocross events is racing, hanging out, and probobly having a big cookout. This club thing is a good distance in the future and the details are being worked out. I just needed to know if the scca would be capable and willing to handle 30 more people at each event. I havent made it out to an event yet but plan on doing so in the near future.

I would appreciate it if you could tell me were the meets are in orlando. Or if you could hook me up w/ a website to get info from that would be great as well!!!!!!

Thanks for the input everyone

Default Side note...

Well, if you just show up, race, and hang out there is one thing your local SCCA might care about - working! As long as you encourage your memebers to work the course and help out when you aren't running it's all good! Some of the VW guys that show up to Philly events aren't appreciated 'cause they take off when their runs are done - but after DSQing a bunch of them from an event I think they have been pulling their weight.

Good point...I hadn't thought of that but we will be encouraging our members to volunteer their services. If anyone else can think of things to make us as welcomed as possible please poste them...

Encouraging is too weak a term. Replace with 'required' if they wish to run.

If you run, *most* clubs require you to work. But if they want to hang around, I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue. But more volunteer workers are always a benefit to keep the event moving, even if they don't run, and chances are wouldn't be refused to be put to work. (just as long as they understand that if they sign up to work, it's a commitment to doing the job)

Hey! I own Texas subaru Motorsports and we run in the Houston Area. I have formed the team last year and we have aqured 5 sponsors that help us abuild the team. Currently we have 8 serious racers out of the 35 people that have signed and didn't commit. The sponsors help us with logos and magnets, parts, equipment and get togethers. We have subaru backing and SCCA backing. We also formed to help out at the local and divisional meets in the area and recruit more peop,e to come out to the tracks. We have been responsible for a huge surge in turn out at trhe local events. Not only that, we are also involved with the local rally-x programs as well. We will soon organize a Driver school and a rally school to local members of SCCA or local Car clubs.

If you need help, let me know, maybe we can form a local chapter in your area.....
