Default shaking/vibration under load

02 wrx wagon
mt
150,000 miles
mostly stock - no major mods that I feel would cause this
i might as well post them anyway

sedan 20mm rear sway bar
kyb gr-2 wagon struts
stock springs
prodrive axle back exhaust
prodrive cai
bpm turbo inlet
koyo radiator
samco silicon intercooler hoses
samco radiator hoses
gm bcs
stock ecu map except for WGDC tuning for gm bcs
17" rota tarmac 2's
stock turbo
stock up pipe
stock down pipe

I'm getting some vibration during acceleration. Whole car shakes / vibrates under load. Doesn't always get worse as rpms increase.

When I put the clutch in, and coast the vibration / shaking is gone.
(doesn't feel like rotor problems - I know that feeling )

I've rotated the tires as well and that didn't seem to change the problem.
I might put on my winter tires/wheels, but if it was a wheel issue, i would think it would do it when coasting as well.

Does not seem to be gear related, rpm or speed related. (doesn't only happen in 2nd gear for instance, and doesn't always occur for instance in 3nd gear at 3000 rpms)

Logged this morning with enginuity and it doesn't appear to be knock / misfire related. no feedback knock correction when I feel the shaking.

I'm going to try to get under it tonight and see if anything sticks out like a sore thumb. In particular I am going to try to examine the mount mounts and tranny mounts...

I've done a bunch of searching here, cv joints / axles / driveshaft / heat shield rattle and none of those seem to fit my particular problem.

I'm just looking for some advice from others here.

thanks in advance

not going to get a chance to look at it tonight.
tennis with the family after work and now off to play some hockey.

i found the universal joint in the FSM, didn't like the starting point of remove the steering wheel!!

it didn't seem as bad at lunch today as it did this morning (temperature related maybe - cold morning in NEPA)

hopefully i will get under it tomorrow after work and see what I can find.

The U joint I'm talking about is the universals on the drive-shaft, mine was the front, right off the transmission. Don't know if the rear one at the rear end would cause this...

finally this morning, I got the front of the car on ramps and looked around.

seems to vibrated under load only when accelerating - i don't feel the shaking when engine braking coming off down a hill in gear for instance

here's what I found (i don't like the look of it )
this is I believe the center diff (transfer case) at the rear of the transmission

picture was crap to start with......

basically if you look at the universal joint I found spots that were cracked (not shiny) that exposed the shiny insides....

the only problem is that the universal joint is not servicable and you need to replace the entire propeller shaft (driveshaft)

I have this same problem on my WRX thanks a lot guys. I have looked forever to find the issue. How much did your dealer charge you for parts and labor?

Hey guys, I realize this an old post but I'm having similar problems and this solution will not fix my issue. I'll try to be as descriptive as possible....
Ok so, for starters,
I own a 2008 forester XT
Automatic
No major modifications:
Ksport coil overs
Removed intake baffle in front passenger fender
Max boost up'd to 18psi (highest I've seen it do is 16psi)

Story goes, when I put my coil overs on, I popped the inner boot off my front passenger axle by accident. Pushed it back on, made sure it held, took it to Subaru to do an alignment immediately after. They did a whole bunch of other work like an exhaust gasket in the joint beside the rear cat, rear trailing arm bushing and front passenger outer cv boot ripped so they replaced that. I told them to check the inner one and fill it back up with grease and explained to them what happened with the boot. For about a week I felt a slight shake, almost hesitating, so I inspected the axles, and sure enough they needed to be changed. Bought a set of surtrack's from rock auto, just installed them today with no issues. I go to start it up and the motor is rumbling like crazy. Engine was cold by this point. Waited till it got up temperature, and it wasn't as bad but still very evident.
Took it around the block and seems its only under load. Only In reverse and drive. Does not do it in neutral or park. When I slowly accelerate at a green light it rumbles and shakes and can be felt through the floor and the steering wheel. If I accelerate quickly, it shakes at rattles the whole car.
The only thing I can think of is when we lifted the car with the jack I placed it under the crossmember. The same place I always lift it from :s
It doesn't seem to be an exhaust leak, if it was it sounds like the exhaust has been completely removed haha.
If I put it in drive, foot on the brake and rev it to about 1500-2000 rpm it shakes and rattles the most.
I can't see it having anything to do with the cv shafts as the vehicle doesn't have to be moving the create the problem. I'm leaning for towards engine or transmission problem.
The ring/clip on the ends of the axles on the transmission side came out with the old axles so I'm positive they didn't fall in.
Anyone have any idea what could be going on?

It sounds to me like a motor mount or tranny mount issue.

something about these subarus, the love to shoot fluids all over the place, creek and make ungodly noises. Best part? We always come to a solution and resolve the problem...Subaru really does equal love

b.rock.1989 > Did you get your axles reinstalled all the way? you may have an axle that did not go in all the way. Make sure when you put the axle in the gap in the clip is is facing up.
